I'm not familiar with the DirectFB code for your particular chipset
but the DFB matrox code falls back to polling the vertical position to
perform VBlank flips when running on a kernel without support for the matrox
vsync interrupt (I believe the last couple of 2.4.x kernels had built in
support for the vsync interrupt).
