[vdr] Re: Need a suggestion (may be interesting for you to readthis if you want to sell / test your product)

Hello Yaniv Ron,

while David is right in general, some people on this list do either work
for software companies making (commercial, deal oriented) linux tv software (convergence.de e.g. develops embedded/set-top box software) or do offer advisory for linux and system design in generally. Since this list is noncommercial its hard for an outsider to see that, but as far as i know some people on this list (like me) do run their (more or less small) own IT Business, those people have time for money and usually a broad range of personal, firsthand experience with linux and DVB. Depending on what you plan to do (network oriented content distribution/interactive customer services/cable head-feeds/corporate tv station) you can find individual professionals which could help you do R&D for your needs. Hardware itself is no big thing, technotrend.de is the designer of most cards used today, other hardware manufacturers products are sometimes not so stable and tend to need more effort to get and keep them working for linux, mostly because they are not so widely used.

p.s.
for now the vdr software and the linux DVB driver are ahead of any commercial manufacturer, this explains perhaps why you could not find decent information on commercial offers, the community was more convinced than Sony.

Hi Yaniv Ron

this is the mailinglist of a SOFTWARE to view digital TV.

It's free to use (read the GPL for more info) and nobody wants to sell something!

Therefore nobody can give you any hardware and there will be no great deal!

We are just a comunity to improve the so called "vdr" software!

Erverybody has bought his hardware on another store!

hope that will make sth. plain to you!

bye

David

Hi,
I am an interactive system engineer in the biggest cable company in Israel called HOT.
I've been visiting your web site (Linux TV) and have saw a lot of interesting cards and software that I would like to use in my company.
I just had a little talk with our engineers, and we want to test some PCI cards that can replace the equipment that we have in our company.
we would like to test it, and see if it gives good results from a regular PC computer.
our only problem is, is that we will need a representative, or a card, or anything that can bring us actual results while transmitting data throughout this equipment that you are advertising on your website.
if we will find it working good, and brings good results, I am more then certain that we will be able to make a great deal.
let me know what you think...
Thanks in advance,

Yaniv Ron
