That may well be. I'm afraid we're going to have to suffer from a whole
plethora of problems (not only VDR related) with this UTF-8 stuff. For
instance, I'm receiving an increasing number of emails where the German umlauts
are just junk characters (actually a single umlaut is represented by two
characters, so I assume the sender was using UTF-8 - but I am NOT).
Well, after we have lost orthography due to a completely silly and unnecessary
reformation a few years ago, I guess we can live happily without the umlauts,
too. If I get a text that reads something like "Hätte möglicherweise genügend Zeit"
it's not too hard to just guess the umlauts...

I suggest turning off UTF-8 on a VDR system. It's just not necessary.
