[vdr] Re: REQUEST: Convert possible bug into a feature

How do you mean exit script? If you're talking about totally exiting VDR then that probably would probably be overkill. I think VDR should remain running and scanning channels.
I was thinking about an exit script that would trigger an SVDRP command that instruct VDR to switch to a particular void channel of pause the stream or something like that, and aborts the exit.
Quitting VDR would then only be possible by sending it a signal (the init script should do that fairly well).

Also, are there any sorts of figures on how much energy is consumed and heat generated by a FF decoding versus not decoding? I'm slightly afraid that the $320 power bills we have been paying recently are as a direct result from having a VDR box (bills used to be closer to $200).
One FF card may consume between 10 and 20W. That's 240 to 480Wh each day, or 87,6kWh to 175,2kWh per year.
My house consumes an average 1849W from mid february to july (measured), with all electric heaters, kitchen, etc. : (3400W average during february).
One single VDR can't explain the increase you mention (unless you do not really use electricity in your house).
