The DVB drivers shipped with 2.6.7 are pretty old.
Device number 212 is used by recent dvb-kernel CVS drivers only.

OSD support has been enhanced, not dropped. ;-)

Enable av7110 OSD support in your kernel and recompile the drivers.
Apparently this option is disabled in many distribution kernels.
