[vdr] Streamdev 0.3.3pre2 - exiting

I'm sure I must have missed something obvious, but cannot work out what.

I am running vanilla vdr 1.3.11 and streamdev plugin 0.3.3pre2, with the 
current Klaus recommended DVB driver and kernel 2.4.22.

After editing and installing streamdevhosts.conf in the correct place 
and starting vdr with -P streamdev-server, I get the following in the log:

registered, exiting

Are there plugins or helper programes required that I have not installed?
