Help on some decisions...

Hello everybody, I am planning to build a vdr-pc within the next weeks and therefore need help on some decisions... As hardware I want to use the AOpen XC Cube AV EA65-II barebone system. This is my first question: The barebone does have an integrated IR-Control. Is it likely that lirc can handle this integrated IR? I'm afraid I can not find any information on the hardware AOpen used for the IR-Control. Maybe someone also uses this barebone with vdr? The TV-Card I will use in the first step is the Hauppauge WinTV Nexus-S. So far the hardware. Now I need Software... I tought about using the LinVDR distribution, but I also want to use the computer as a file-server, and therefore I think that LinVDR is a bit too restrictive, so I will use a "standard" distribution. This will then probably be Gentoo. Any Problem with that? Alright, if this System is up and running I will be very happy. But in a second step I would like to put a second TV device in it to be able to record several channels at the same time. Since the XC Cube has only one PCI Slot and I have only one free satellite cable I am thinking about a DVB-T USB Box. I have seen several on the Wiki that work with Linux. But I was wondering if using a PCI DVB-S and a USB DVB-T Adapter could cause Trouble. Any experience with that? Are DVB-T USB Boxes also divided into full-featured and budget adapters? If so will I probably need a full-featured one as second device or is a budget card enough? And does it make a big difference if the adapter supports usb 2.0? Many Questions, I know. But maybe someone of you knows the answers :-) If my system is then up and running I am thinking about posting an article in the "Barebones and bundles" section on the Wiki. Would be glad to do something for the community :-))) Many thanks for some hints. Greetings Björn

That would > bring cpu usage for hdtv playback down a bit. Actually my opinion about XvMC is that you don't want to use that on 1080i HDTV signal. This is because XvMC doesn't support deinterlacing and you want deinterlaced signal, or you have combing in your picture. I've tested this with Euro1080, Nvidia XvMC, DVI-out and Sony projector on progressive frame format. Maybe Sony's deinterlacer could improve the picture but due Nvidia driver timing problem I cannot confirm this. This because XvMC 'captures' MPEG data before it can be deinterlaced by host CPU. And I am not aware of HW/GPU deinterlacers other than Nvidia 6600/6800 with purevideo, but purevideo support is Windows only AFAIK. Best regards, Jori

XviD movie stuttering (Mplayer)

One movie fails to play properly when using TT full featured card, VDR (1.3.22), MPlayer plugin (0.9.11), mplayer (1.0 pre 6 with codes from Feb 2005) and mplayer.sh (0.8.6). Audio stutters constantly. However, using following command the audio does not stutter: mplayer -vf expand=720:576 -vo mpegpes -ao mpegpes <avi-file> And this works even over ssh tunnel well (subtitles are missing but that should not be that big deal). So the file is good but there are some parameters that cause this but haven't figured out what causes this. Following configs are used (from mplayer.sh.conf): PAL="true" NTSC="false" USE_SPEED="true" USEAC3="true" AC3AOUT="-ac hwac3" TV_ASPECT="16/9" DETC_FILTER="ivtc=1" MPLAYER_V1="true" CACHE="8192" FRAMEDROP="false" MPEG_DIRECT="true" Can anyone help with the problem? 1.3.15: VDSB errors when recording

Hi, I was getting VDSB errors on my 2 VDRs (1.3.15, one on SUSE 9.0, the other on 9.2) when recording (only). I followed the hint in http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=25233&sid= by adding the "-5" in remux.c. Now I am getting lots of buffer overrun errors on the slow machine (VIA C3 533), resulting in broken MPEG streams. The recordings are not very usable afterwards. Vdradmin autotimer suggestion

I don't know about other countries but in finland often programs have reruns within few days causing some autotimer to timer same event twise. This is quite usual especially with series. So I wonder if it would be a good idea or even feasible to have weekday selection in autotimer setup? - Kartsa No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
