Hi Tony,
My TV has a VGA in, too.
OK cool just use the VGA, that will give you the best picture and at no extra cost! Yay!
Great! I already downloaded all the needed stuff (viafb, DirectFB, DFB++, softdevice) from CVS and compiled it (over ssh, so I cannot test now).
What resolution/mode should I choose?
I remember some months ago, when I played around with X on the EPIA, I couldn't get a good picture in 16:9, only with 4:3 (1024x768).
I hope this is not a problem with my TV. It's a LCD, 16:9, and it claims to have a resolution of 1280x768 IIRC. But X and DDC did not report such a mode, only 1024x768.
The TV remote control I can switch between 4:3, 16:9 and "Zoom". The 16:9 mode simply stretches the 4:3 image horizontally so that it covers the whole screen.
I got a really crispy image with 1024x768 in 4:3 mode (the default X background didn't show any moire effect), but large black borders on both sides.
I couldn't get such a clear picture in 16:9 mode, I tried a lot of X11 modelines, but failed....
I'll play around with this in the evening.
Are there any (simple) test programs for DirectFB and friends? Some "test images" where I can tell that there's nothing "invisible" (outside the screen borders), a good pixel match (no moire/interpolation) and so on?
TIA, Michael
