Hi,
I have here an old VDR system running and my DVB-S cards are stopping to work now (VDR 1.6 and 2xDVB-S cards). It starts with a lot of distortions and then they stops to record completely. I have only 0 minute records for my new timers.
In the log file I have: Jul 6 14:25:24 video vdr: [10063] ERROR: video data stream broken Jul 6 14:25:31 video vdr: [19846] ERROR: video data stream broken Jul 6 14:25:55 video vdr: [10063] ERROR: video data stream broken Jul 6 14:26:02 video vdr: [19846] ERROR: video data stream broken Jul 6 14:26:26 video vdr: [10063] ERROR: video data stream broken
If VDR records on the second DVB card everything is fine.
I'm quite sure that this a hardware issue. The cards I habe installed currently are: 02:07.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01) 02:09.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)
Which are good cards to replace them?
Best regards, Matthias

works perfect for me

Looks that way. With this hot weather in Germany at the moment: maybe the cards just get too hot?
could be the problem. In fact the DVB-S cards are getting really hot. Maybe it's better to install a cooling on them?
Would it be an option to buy a budget card? If I understood it correctly the budget card has no TV output but that isn't necessary if I have one FF card or? Or are there any other drawbacks?
Bye, Matthias
Hi Matthias :-)
Maybe it's better to install a cooling on them?
That could be one solution. The 1.3 cards are known to have heat problems.
Thats an option. You only need one FF card to do the video-output and so on. I've also One FF and one budget card and that works really fine.
Or are there any other drawbacks?
I don't know any drawbacks, but maybe others know some?
Greetings Patrick

no the second card is working fine and all other cards in the house too. And that the cable breaks when no one touch it is nearly impossible.
I had such a problem a year ago and after I removed the damaged card everything worked fine till now. It seems now that the next card died :(
btw, the SAA 7146 is the controller on the card, not the type of the card, like Hauppauge NEXUS-S or Technotrend
it is a Technotrend Rev 1.3.

If I were you I'd definitely re-check the cabling. The F plugs are the worst sh*t the industry ever invented when it comes to safe contacts. Had they only used BNC plugs but no ...
Every other while I get VDSBs or machine freezes from bad F plug contacts. Corrosion, earth quakes, I don't know. After fixing it every works fine, usually.
it is a Technotrend Rev 1.3.
Getting hot ;-)
You need only one full featured card per system. All other cards can be budgets.
