AFAIK the BBC-TV-channels are still encrypted. Are there any free channels from Great Britain? If so: could you mail the appropriate line for channels.conf?

Yes, but it (well, they) would be for the Pontop Pike transmitter, which is presumably a little outside your local area...

No they are FTA on BSkyB and have been for quite some time. Channel 4 etc are encrypted still

Here in Germany (Kiel / Schleswig-Holstein) i can watch Astra 2D with a 90 cm Waverontier Toroidal T 90 Sat-Dish. No Problems so far. Even with bad weather.

I believe that the Astra 2D beam is directed towards England, Iceland and Greenland, so it does not show very well in Europe, unless you have a large dish.

LONDON (AFX) - British broadcasters ITV PLC and Channel 4 will this week join the consortium that promotes Freeview, the free digital television service that carries their channels, the Sunday Telegraph reported without citing sources.

Current members are British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC, the BBC and Crown Castle, part of power company National Grid Transco PLC.

Becoming members will give them a greater say in how Freeview, which reaches 5 mln of the UK's 25 mln homes, is promoted, the paper said.

I am not in the UK. Reading this it seems that Channel 4 may join the FTA channels on sky.
