NXP Semiconductors is the name that was adopted for the former 'Philips Semiconductors' after Philips sold, in October 2006, the controlling interest in their subsidiary to a private equity group. Despite the sale, Philips still retains a large stake in the new company, perhaps reflected in the proud "founded by Philips" portion of the NXP logo.
The new semiconductor company continues producing a variety of logic chipsets that are commonly found in DVB STB and PC hardware (e.g. the TDA8083, TDA1002x series and TDA1004x series demodulators).
