I do not agree with the sentence below


Since even HDTV MPEG2 Decoders implemented in software perform well on every modern PC there is usually no need for cards with onboard MPEG2 Decoder today. An exception may be special software that relies on proprietary card features like VDR.


It is not because performance of latest shipped CPU is sufficient today that software architecture should tomorrow be designed to support only a software implementation. According to me, the architecture should support simultaneously both implementations (CPU offload should always be possible as an option)
