Re: Speed in masq

Q: What's your experience at the moment regarding speeds?

Same here, about 15-25KB/sec / download.

Q: I am using dvbd and it seems to work. What's difference with dvbd2 ?

A: The version number ? I got no clue. I guess improvements have been
made to work with the newer drivers...
--
Q: Is there some trick to increase speed in a masquerade network ?

A: If you get to know one, pls let me know, but as far as my
understanding goes, masquerading doesn't affect speeds.

Q: what are advantages if I use squid ? I know what is squid, but i am
unable to relate it to the DVB.

A: using squid you can allow internal masqueraded servers direct access
to the DVB EON download stream by accessing your squid. even without a
internal password. To accomplish this you have to set the EON proxy as
'parent cache' to your squid. Heres the line for your /etc/squid.conf

cache_peer 194.177.32.196 parent 8080 3130 default no-query
login=username:password

Q: is EOL offering a news server ?

A: Yep. news114.europeonline.net , news115.europeonline.net ...
--
Q: is napster working behind dvb ?

A: Yes. Just enter the proxy (easiest if you got your own squid) in the
proxy configuration of napster. But napster is going to be shut down at
Saturday 6.00 o'clock in the morning, so I recommend Gnutella
(gnutella.wego.com) !

Hope I helped, best regards
