Thanks, Johannes

Experiment has shown that it is approximate, sometimes lots more
sometimes lots less.

Unfortunately, that made no difference.

However, adding "noapic" to the lilo command line along with the
watchdog option produced a very slow but completely (over 4 hours of TV
modules installed and running) machine.

I am no running with just the noapic option, and will try to record a
film overnight to see what happens.

Adding the noapic option was just guessing as a result of total
frustration. I have no real idea of what it does, why it might work, or
why I should or should not do it!
