Well.. as long as the driver does not offer a volume-value for the insmod, it will still be a pain, although only for seconds.

Of course it would be nice if VDR completely remembered its last state... BTW.. where 
Another thing I'm missing about the volume-stuff is of course an optical feedback... say a graph/number when changing the volume (and maybe in the channel-info-
display) and some text/sign while mute is on.
