The device number 4 should be the one to use.
Can you please post the complete logfile contents, beginning at the line
looking like
May 13 06:29:26 video vdr[11331]: VDR version 1.1.31 started
without editing anything out or wrapping the lines?
And please try it with VDR 1.1.31.
