[vdr] Yet another nvram wakeup problem

I've tried to wade through the earlier discussions, but haven't found an
answer...
Environment: kernel 2.4.24-ctvdr-2, motherboard MSI-6535, BIOS AMI Version
07.00T, VDR 1.2.6-13.

I have the poweroff kernel installed.

If I do something like

nvram-wakeup -s $((`date +%s` + 1200))
lilo -R PowerOff
reboot

the system wakes up as specified.

If I do a VDR shutdown from the remote (while there's a timer outstanding),
the system does not wake up. This is an excerpt of the syslog: The new
wakeuptime looks ok, the system does it poweroff reboot as it should, but it
never wakes up. What am I missing?
