I tried also with imlib2 1.2.0.20050116, same problem, and confirmed here also
that downgrading to 1.1.2 fixes it. 

(I do use gentoo. Just in case someone else does, it's still available on
portage with 'emerge =media-libs/imlib2-1.1.2.ebuild').
