Here's a quick solution for the shutdown issue.

commands.conf:
23 : shutdown -h 23:00
23.5 : shutdown -h 23:30
24 : shutdown -h 0:00
0.5 : shutdown -h 0:30
1  : shutdown -h 1:00
........

Disadvantage: after starting a shutdown command it's no longer possible
to make an input to vdr.

It would be nice, if there were a menu item in which you would just give
in the time as four digits, and that would make vdr to shut down at that
time. Maybe it's an idea to implement something like that.
