Did that and got around 707 channels on 53 transponder(-ids) (see
attached "statistics").  Thanks for the explanation on how to use
satscan.

Meanwhile I've repartitioned my HD and installed Win2k on /dev/hda1
(not as complicate as it sounds, as the machine is running "diskless"
with hda being an LVM for swapping and temporary data storage and so
on).  I did that, as the card is runnig fine (well, it runs, with few
drop-outs) on my OW's machine which is also a 1GHz AMD (Duron versus
Athlon on mine) with exactly the same amount of memory, comparable
chipset (both VIA) under Win2k.  Both computers are about 2m apart and
were plugged into the same Sat-socket using the very same cable.  On
my machine I sometimes get a kind of still-image and a piece of sound
using the Win2k drivers and applications, but can't really watch TV
with it.

I've done some statistics on the output of dvbtune -z -f.. (check.sh).
I have 
  - an average bit error rate of 62174 (which sounds high, if 2^16
    is the maximum), 
  - a signal strength of 47602 (~ 72%),
  - an SNR of 51345 (78%).

So I'd like to know

1) Has anybody a pointer for me to an online document about how to
   adjust my SAT equipment for digital receiving? (OT, I know,
   sorry).  LNB and switch should be ok (bought it with digital TV in
   mind but had only analogue receivers)

2) Any ideas, why this d*** card works in a different PC but not in
   mine?  I've read something about PCI-latency and noticed, that the
   card is set to 33 (see attached "lspci", 2nd last entry) which
   someone considered too low last year.  But I think I have an
   RF-problem, right?

I'm willing to beta-test it and don't even mind rebooting my PC once
and then ;-)

I may still be doing something very stupid. I've got all ideas of who
to actually view something with a "low-budget"-card from the
mailinglist.

I used 
  - ntuxzap -e
  - ts2ps 0 0 </dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 > /video/rec"
    and then
  - mplayer /video/rec
 to view the recorded stream (when it still worked, now /video/rec
 remains an empty file).
