you should also load the frontend driver (probably ves1820 in your
case), and some other modules (try loading them all by modprobe).  Before starting vdr, check 
1) /var/log/messages 
   so that the device is found ...
2) scan and czap using the dvb-utils 
   (can be downloaded from linuxtv.org)

If these work, then it is a vdr thing, but so far it just seems your
problem is not getting the drivers installed.
