VDR as a set top box

Hi group My VDR box currently starts up like a regular Fedora Core user, auto-logs-in and starts xine - much like I expect most of you do. I'm looking for a way to make all the X startup and log in invisible to the user. This is where my knowledge of X and gnome falls down. Ideally, once the initial kernel messages have completed I'd like a VDR splash screen (maybe even a progress bar) as things start up. How do I do this? I've been looking at modifying xinitrc and xinitrc-common to remove the desktop manager, but this seems a bit brutal. Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks Simon

Plugins DVD and Dolby Digital

Hi, With VDR-1.5.10 and cvs version plugins DVD, it is not possible to have audio. The syslog shows: [4223] switching to pre 1.3.19 Dolby Digital compatibility mode UseDolbyDigital is disabled. The solution I have for the moment is to apply the patch that I put in attachment. Thanks for your help.

xinelibout with no OSD

Hello List, I am not sure what is the status of the vdr-xinelibout pluging regarding vdr-1.6.0. Is the CVS Version already adopted? I have tried to migrate my running vdr-1.4.5 with xineliboutput-1.0.0pre7 to the latest version of vdr-1.6.0 and the latest CVS Version of xineliboutput. Streaming of live-TV is OK but I get only a very unusable OSD (see attached picture) when I hit a button on my "JustAnother"-JAVA-remotecontrol. And it seems so that the SVDR-port is blocked after this first button-press. The "very transparent" OSD shadow than stays forever. TV streaming is still working very fluently without any dropouts. My configuration is a diskless VDR box with FF Card and xineliboutput without frontends. The client is the "out-of-the-box" xine-ui with the apropriate libs from the actual Debian SID on my desktop computer. Have I missed something in the setup or is it realy not finished to run with vdr-1.6.0? Problem with ExtRecMenu with CIFS

Hi, I'm having a problem with ExtRecMenu 1.1 on vdr 1.5.15, using a CIFS-mounted disk. When trying to rename e recording, in this case "Uutisvuoto" to "utisvuoto" (just to test), I get error "ERROR: Rename/Move failed" Looking at the disk, the directory "/data/varasto/vdr/utisvuoto" is created (and not removed), but the .rec -directory is not. Apr 5 22:23:09 attic vdr: [17840] [extrecmenu] MoveRename() - rename() - Resource temporarily unavailable The disk is mounted with /etc/fstab: //aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd/share /data/varasto cifs (credential stuff removed) uid=109,gid=29,file_mode=0664,dir_mode=0775 0 0 (not that the file_mode or dir_mode actually do anything, I just haven't got around to remove them...) Playing around with it a bit, it seems that rename("dir1/subdir","dir2/subdir"); I found near around tools.c:110 doesn't work with CIFS, if the "dir2/subdir" exists (although my 2-liner test program gives "Permission denied", even when running as root, instead of the "Resource temporarily unavailable"). With ext3 the test program works fine. I'm not sure whose problem it is, maybe a bug for CIFS, or maybe the standard behaviour for "rename" isn't clear (I couldn't find a documentation for it, BTW), but, in any case, it doesn't work. My test program works if the destination directory doesn't have the last subdir created. Would it be possible to make extrecmenu work in that way? Or should I/we/someone else/their uncle complain to the CIFS people? The version of the smbfs packet from which the mount.cifs comes is 3.0.26a-1ubuntu2.3, and the distribution... er... ubuntu... LOCDIR/LOCALEDIR and plugins

Hello, I'm a bit confused about the locale dir stuff in VDR 1.6.0 especially wrt. plugins. newplugin hardcodes LOCALEDIR to $(VDRDIR)/locale without taking Make.config into account at all. The result is that plugins will try to place their *.mo into a wrong location if LOCDIR was customized in in VDR's Make.config and/or "make install" was used. I suppose the attached patch would fix that. However that does not address weirdness in main VDR's locale dir handling; the value set for LOCDIR in Make.config gets built into vdr as the compile time default locale dir, but but "make install-i18n" will install the *.mo somewhere else unless one sets identical value for LOCALEDIR in Makefile (setting it in Make.config does not have any effect). Are both LOCDIR and LOCALEDIR needed? I'd try to clean this up and post a patch that fixes it if I knew what the intention is :)

This plugin generates Number Place puzzles, so called Sudokus, and let you solve it. A Sudoku puzzle consists of 9 x 9 cells subdivided into 9 regions with 3 x 3 cells. The rules are simple. There have to be the numbers from 1 to 9 in every row, column and region. In the beginning some numbers are given. These cells are painted with cyan background color. Problems playing ongoing recordings?

Is anyone seeing some kind of problem when playing back files, but only when the recording has not yet finished? Possibly just when replaying a file that is currently being extended, maybe by another VDR and/or over NFS. [i had a problem like that many months ago, attempted to fix it, but it seems i was too successful ;) - the problem went away, but i didn't verify that the change actually helped. By now i don't remember exactly what the symptoms were, and what the vdr setup looked like at the time; hence i can't easily reproduce it. I'm planning on basing another feature on top of the fix and wondering how to handle that...] artur

DXR3 and subtitles in 1.5.x

Hi, E-tobi's experimental VDR branch moved to 1.5.x series, so I did too, but I'm running into some problems. Specifically, this one: Mar 4 21:05:22 dvd vdr: [17719] dxr3: colormanager: bummer, too many sections (14), reusing last one I digged archives and found out the reason apparently is that DXR3 doesn't completely support 8-bit OSD but claims to do so. Result is OSD that's made illegible by tearing white lines etc. Ok, so the solution for OSD (and default themes?) seems to be to turn off the anti-aliasing, which then reduces number of colors enough to make it work. However, there's still the problem of (DVB) subtitles: similar tearing makes the subtitles unusable. On top of that, opening an OSD when there are subtitles seems to make VDR crash and burn. Has anyone had the same problem and possibly even come up with the solution? -- Sami Sundell sami.sundell(a)kotikone.fi

ac3 handling in cutted vdr recordings

Hello, I have experienced a strange problem with vdr recordings after cutting them in vdr. My recording has e. G. two mpeg audio, 1 mpeg video and one ac3 audiotrack. Then I have tried to burn a dvd-video using replex |dvdauthor && growisofs Problem: The ac3 audiotrack was not recognized by replex at the first time. Adjusting the first cuttingmark changed this behaviour. The problem does not exist any more if the first cuttingmark in vdr was placed at another position (using 4/6 on my remote). My question: Whats wrong here? I don't want to use another utility to cut vdr recordings to get a valid file for replex!!! Thanks have a nice day. Halim
