VDR maintenance patch 1.6.0-2 is now available at
ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.6.0-2.diff
This is a 'diff' against version 1.6.0-1 (which is the official
version 1.6.0, patched with ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.6.0-1.diff).
Small fixes to the officially released VDR versions will be first
made available as "maintenance patches" in the Developer directory,
so that they can be reviewed and tested before a new official
release is published.
So please apply the …
[View More]above patch(es) and report whether it works (or
if it causes any new problems).
This version is binary compatible to the previous one, so plugins
don't need to be recompiled.
The changes since version 1.6.0-1:
- Updated the Italian OSD texts (thanks to Diego Pierotto).
- The SVDRP signon message now indicates the character encoding in use, as in
"220 video SVDRP VideoDiskRecorder 1.7.1; Fri May 2 16:17:10 2008; ISO-8859-1".
This may be useful for instance for external tools that provide EPG data, so that
they can correctly encode the strings.
- No longer calling FcFini() to avoid problems with older (broken) versions of
fontconfig (suggested by Edgar Toernig).
- Updated the sources.conf file (thanks to Oleg Roitburd).
- Fixed a possible integer overflow in GetAbsTime() (thanks to Alexander Rieger).
- Fixed a problem with calling isyslog() from within the SignalHandler() (thanks
to Udo Richter).
- Replaced the Finnish language code "smi" with "suo" (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg).
- Fixed wrong value for TableIdBAT in libsi/si.h (thanks to Winfried Köhler).
- Removed unneeded include files <linux/dvb/dmx.h> und <time.h> from remux.h
(reported by Tobias Grimm).
Have fun!

Greener VDR

I don't know it this has been ever suggested. More greener VDR.
What I have in my mind is to shutdown DVB cards when not needed. Why?
I use my VDR as fileserver and web platform so I am not happy to shutdown whole machine (I run 24/7). I turn off harddrives to save energy, OS and X is on SSD drive. So it comes into question that if not timers are occouring and I indicate with power off-button (or even main menu-entry "power save") that I am not live tv -using VDR, and EPGScan is not needed, …
[View More]why not shutdown the DVB cards? EPGScan could be done with budget card on timeout, naturally if budget is present. After scan go to sleep again. With hitting remote could wake up the cards (I am not using DVB card IR remote) which needed. Like FF card for menu, or with softdevices, enable tv-out via that.
I don't know how much watt savings could be achieved with this, but on conseptual level it sounds good or do you agree?
I hope some 10-20 watts could be saved in 1xFF and 2xbudget environment. And less heat inside the box, on softdevices CPU runs lower power etc..

Hi Klaus & list,
Today I had an unexpected parse error in my channels.conf, in this line:
Test Feed;Test Feed:10920:hC56M2O0S0:S19.2E:22000:0:0:0:0:0:1:1063:0
The line was added by automatic transponder scan yesterday. The 'bug' of
this channel is that the SID (4'th last) is 0, triggering
tChannelID::Valid() to be false.
By now, the channel is announced correctly like this:
Test Feed;Test
Feed:10920:hC56M2O0S0:S19.2E:22000:601:0:0:D02,1815:20351:1:1063:0
The core problem however …
[View More]is that the channel was added without
completely checking validity first. Adding a check for Valid() to
cChannels::NewChannel() probably solves this issue. (not tested)
Until this is fixed, its probably a good idea to disable channel updates
for VDR systems that run mostly un-monitored. (Holiday season is near!)
Cheers,
Udo

Hello,
I have a strange problem with a specific recording I did record some time
ago (end
2007).
It seems that, after some time (5 to 10 min) I loose the sync between the
video and the sound. After an other +/-1 minute the sound becomes choppy.
I had a look on the cpu usage : +/- 25% or lower
The recording is on a IDE HDD in the same machine.
When I try a recording made a few days before or later, no problem at all.
cpu usage is the same as above.
I am running vdr 1.5.13 on a …
[View More]Xeon, 2.4 Ghz, kubuntu 8.04, with a FF card.
It is possible that the recording was made with an other version of vdr,
because I am changing from time to time.
Live TV and every other recording I did try are working well.
Any idea ?
Thanks,
Serge

I succesfully run the Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2. It uses the same
driverset as the HVR-4000 and it is also known as the HVR-4000 Lite.
Unlike the HVR-4000, it only has DVB-S and DVB-S2 reception and it lacks
the Analog and DVB-T input (which I don't need anyway since I allready had
a working USB DVB-T adapter in Linux/VDR).
I run this on a VDR …

Hello,
after about 7 years in use with vdr a thunderstorm killed the tuner of my
FF :-(.
There is one budget card in the system. With CAID parameter in channels conf
set to two for all channels I managed to keep vdr operational.
Question:
If I now by a second budget card (slot available), is there any way that vdr
would use those two budgets but not the tuner of the FF-card?
Extra question:
Does the reel eHD have an fbas output?
I think of buying a reel eHD, but dont really have the time …
[View More]for such a big
change, especially if that would also need new wiring.
@Klaus: Thanks again for that great piece of software

Hi,
I am using the iptv plugin to view NASA TV. I now have a good picture,
but the audio is broken. All I get is a series of squeals and pops,
nothing listenable.
Anyone have any Ideas?
Thanks,
Mark Hawes
