Hi,
I'm looking for help with my vdr 1.6 system.
I think the problem only affects BSkyB channels Channel4, More4,
E4 and Film4: those channels a/v are out of sync (sometimes
more, sometimes less). Recordings from those channels are also
affected.
I think that at some point, I didn't have this a/v sync issue,
but I could be wrong.
My vdr uses vdr-xine with a new xine-lib 1.2 (for vdpau) as
output device.
Due to the unstable nature of some of the components, I've tried
exchanging parts of …
[View More]my output chain to their stable
counterparts: xine-lib 1.1.17, ffmpeg-0.5, xine-ui-0.99.5.
Also, I've tried deactivating "Dynamic Ticks" in the kernel.
None of those measures have helped.
Can anyone here point me to where the a/v sync issue is most
likely to originate from?
Can it be vdr itself? Does vdr process video separate from
audio?
>From what I've read so far, xine-lib delegates MPEG TS
processing to ffmpeg.

Hi there,
I finally published new streamdev releases on http://streamdev.vdr-developer.org.
Streamdev-0.4.0 is the final release for VDR 1.4.x. There won't be any more
updates. Use streamdev-0.5.0 for recent VDRs.
IMPORTANT: Please follow the upgrade instructions from the plugin's README
file. When updating to streamdev-0.5.0, the following changes are necessary
(even if you have been running streamdev-0.5.0pre from CVS before):
* Streamdev-server's plugin config directory is now
$…
[View More]VDRCONFDIR/plugins/streamdev-server/. Streamdev-server expects the file
streamdevhosts.conf in this directory. It is also the default location of the
externremux.sh script.
* The externremux script is now responsible for emitting all HTTP response
headers. Make sure you send out at least the Content-type header and a blank
line to terminate the header block. I encourage you to try the new
externremux.sh script which ships with the streamdev sources. It fixes several
problems with script termination from earlier releases and allows you to
change several remux parameters on the fly by specifying URL parameters. The
URL path to access externremux changed from EXTERN to EXT.
Check the HISTORY for a complete changelog. Here's a brief overview of the
most important new features in 0.5.0:
- HTTP authentication
- CGI like interface and URL parameters for externremux.sh
- rewrite of externremux.sh
- Multicast streaming server option
Thanks to all contributors and sorry for the long time it took to publish this
new release. I'll try to release more often now, but don't take my word for it.

Am getting this error when running with local sxfe frontend.
Strangely, using vdr-sxfe works, it's only the local frontend that
wont start;

Can there be any setting in the xine config_xineliboutput file that
causes the local frontend to fail vdpau initialisation?

Hi list, hi Klaus,
In continuation of this old topic [1] and the bug ticket [2]:
I've written a patch that changes handling of receivers in VDR. The
patch makes sure that receivers of priority of -1 won't block a device,
without re-introducing the Live TV Freeze [3] bug.
Details of this issue are very well documented in [2], patches are also
available there.
In short, -1 receivers are supposed to be disconnectable at any time,
but transfer mode runs at -1 priority too, and should not be
…
[View More]disconnected. Transfer mode runs at -1 so that an existing transfer mode
does not block channel switching. The solution is to let the channel
switch code know that the transfer source device will soon be available.
Cheers,
Udo

VDR developer version 1.7.15 is now available at
ftp://ftp.tvdr.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.7.15.tar.bz2
A 'diff' against the previous version is available at
ftp://ftp.tvdr.de/vdr/Developer/vdr-1.7.14-1.7.15.diff
WARNING:
========
This is a *developer* version. Even though *I* use it in my productive
environment. I strongly recommend that you only use it under controlled
conditions and for testing and debugging.
The changes since version 1.7.14:
- Added Macedonian language …
[View More]texts (thanks to Dimitar Petrovski).
- Updated the Estonian OSD texts (thanks to Arthur Konovalov).
- Updated the Finnish OSD texts (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg).
- Added handling of EnhancedAC3DescriptorTag (thanks to Eric Valette).
- The default SVDRP port is now 6419 (registered with ICANN/IANA by Christian Tramnitz).
Use '-p 2001' to switch back to the old port if necessary.
- Updated the Italian OSD texts (thanks to Diego Pierotto).
- cDvbDevice::ProvidesTransponder() now checks the modulation capabilities of the
device (as far as the driver allows this).
- Fixed cFrameDetector::Analyze() in case part of the data has been processed and
there is less than MIN_TS_PACKETS_FOR_FRAME_DETECTOR left (reported by Derek Kelly).
- Added a note about not deleting cDeviceHook objects to device.h.
- Added user defined key kUser0 (suggested by Ulf Kiener).
- Include paths are now added instead of overwriting INCLUDES in the Makefile (thanks
to Paul Menzel).
- The various modulation types are now taken into account when selecting a device for
a recording or live viewing, so that devices that provide more capabilities are
spared.
- Fixed generating PMT language descriptors for multi language PIDs (thanks to Rolf
Ahrenberg).
- Transponders that use "8psk turbo fec" (a non-standard mode used by North American
providers) are now identified by assuming that all 8psk transponders on DVB-S use
"turbo fec". In order to determine whether a certain device can handle "turbo fec",
the new driver flag FE_CAN_TURBO_FEC is checked. If your device can handle "turbo
fec", and your driver doesn't have that flag, yet, you can apply the patch from
ftp://ftp.tvdr.de/vdr/Developer/v4l-dvb-add-FE_CAN_TURBO_FEC.diff. A temporary
macro in dvbdevice.c defines the flag for all those who don't need this in the
driver, so that they can continue using an unmodified driver.
Thanks to Derek Kelly for testing this.
- Updated the Ukrainian OSD texts (thanks to Yarema Aka Knedlyk).
- Fixed handling "none" color entries in XPM files (thanks to Thomas Gu"nther).
- Fixed a crash when creating a new channel if the channel list is empty (reported
by Halim Sahin).
- Updated the Czech OSD texts (thanks to Radek Stastny).
- Fixed a possible out of buffer memory access in case of bad TS data (reported
by Rolf Ahrenberg).
- Implemented handling of HD resolution subtitles according to v1.3.1 of
ETSI EN 300 743, chapter 7.2.1 (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg).
- The EPG data now handles stream components 5 (H.264-video) and 6 (HEAAC-audio).
- Fixed a problem with external Dolby Digital processing via the '-a' option in live
mode and with TS recordings (reported by Christopher Reimer).
- Added handling MPEG audio types "ISO/IEC 14496-3 Audio with LATM transport syntax"
and "ISO/IEC 13818-7 Audio with ADTS transport syntax" (suggested by Luis Fernandes).
See man vdr(5) on how the APID section of channels has been extended to store
this information.
- Added detecting channels that use service type 0x16.
- Added full handling of the stream types of Dolby Digital pids
(thanks to Jose Alberto Reguero).
- The new setup option "OSD/Number keys for characters" can be used to control whether
the number keys can be used to enter characters in a text input field (suggested
by Stefan Huskamp).
Have fun!
Klaus

A new release of vdr-plugin-targavfd
More details at: http://projects.vdr-developer.org/wiki/plg-targavfd
Core feature:
* native integration, to show VDR states
* use freetype fonts
* UTF-8 support
Changes:
* Add exit mode 'Show only present next timer' (Request #356)
* Add setup option to control volume bargraph
* Allow partial data transfer
* Select brightness by in plain language
* Update running clock frequently
* Don't show icons, if showing clock on exit
Recently VDR has become a defunct process sometimes when I've stopped
it. I'm not sure how to investigate that kind of problem so I was
hoping someone can give some advice. The only way I know of to clear
it is to reboot, which I'd rather avoid if I can. Another user
suggested I look at the process ID with ptree, which shows:
$ ptree 5236
Execution terminated by unhandled exception
Exception name: ASIS.EXCEPTIONS.ASIS_INAPPROPRIATE_COMPILATION_UNIT

[View More]traceback locations:

Though I don't know if any of that is even useful.
System infos:
debian testing
kernel 2.6.34.1
dvb drivers from mercurial tree dated 2010-07-07 (9652f85e688a tip)
vdr-1.7.15
Any help is greatly appreciated.
