Undetected channels on transponders switching from DVB-S to DVB-S2

Hi, I think it is a great feature that VDR will update channel parameters and add newly found channels automatically if UpdateChannels is set to value 5 in setup.conf. But my impression is currently that VDR might fail to find new channels on a satellite transponder in the special situation that the transponder has changed it's broadcasting "method" from DVB-S to DVB-S2. Of course, prior to changing the method, a transponder might be scraped from any channels so that there will be nothing on the transponder any more for a couple of days or weeks (this of course totally depends on the habits of the provider). And this tackles another small problem: I think that VDR doesn't delete any channels from the channels.conf in any case. So outdated channels have to be removed manually. Has there been an attempt to offer a functionality that VDR makes a note of those channels that get the line "frontend timed out while tuning to channel X" in the syslog and offers those channels for manual deletion via the OSD in a special OSD page called "Outdated channels"? My questions are based on the experience when two transponders switched from DVB-S to DVB-S2 in 2011: 1) On S28.2E the transponder containing the BBC HD channels did this. 2) On S19.2E the transponder now containing the Sonnenklar.HD TV did this. In both cases VDR wasn't able to add the new DVB-S2 channels to the channels.conf automatically as long as not all predecessor channels had been manually removed from the channels.conf. It would be nice if this could happen automatically and users could remove outdated channels from the channels.conf easily. Yes, the patches have now all been merged into the xine-lib tree: http://hg.debian.org/hg/xine-lib/xine-lib I suspect that the patches will also arrive in the 1.2 tree at some later point. However, xine-lib-1.2 doesn't build for me on Fedora 15 so I can't test it myself. Cheers, Chris

xine with new AAC LATM support

Hi, Just in case anyone is interested: There has been a sudden spike in xine development (1.1.19 branch), and AAC LATM audio should now be working with MPEG-TS streams. You will also need to be using FFmpeg >= 0.7. Cheers, Chris

perfect little vdr client hardware

The netv from chumby seems to be perfect as a hardware client to VDR, if it can decode mpeg2/h.264. Does anyone here know any more about this product? It seems to be fairly open, and based on an embedded linux distro. http://wiki.chumby.com/index.php/NeTV_developer_info -- -Tor

Only getting partial EPG data with 1.7.21?

Did anything change with VDR 1.7.21 regarding EIT? For some reason I'm only getting partial EIT data (ie. lots of channels are missing EIT data). For my provider, the 7 day EPG guide is sent on one specific transponder and it contains EPG information for all satellites and services on the entire network. This worked fine in 1.7.20 but for some reason it's not updating lots of channels in 1.7.21.

Even though *I* use it in my productive environment. I strongly recommend that you only use it under controlled conditions and for testing and debugging. This version contains functions to determine the "signal strength" and "signal quality" through cDevice. If you are using a DVB card that contains an stb0899 frontend chip (like the TT-budget S2-3200) you may want to apply the patches from ftp://ftp.tvdr.de/vdr/Developer/Driver-Patches to the LinuxDVB driver source in order to receive useful results from that frontend. The changes since version 1.7.20: - Fixed detecting frames for channels that split frames into several payloads (reported by Derek Kelly). - Now initializing Setup.InitialChannel to an empty string to avoid problems in case there is no setup.conf. - The start time of an edited recording is now set to the time of the first editing mark (thanks to Udo Richter). This obsoletes the CUTTIME patch. - Direct access to the members start, priority, lifetime, and deleted of cRecording as well as to position and comment of cMark is now deprecated. Plugin authors should switch to the new access functions for these members. For now the macro __RECORDING_H_DEPRECATED_DIRECT_MEMBER_ACCESS is defined in recording.h, which exposes these members, so that existing plugins will still compile. Comment out this #define to check whether a particular plugin needs to be modified. This #define may be removed in a future version. - The new functions cRecording::NumFrames() and cRecording::LengthInSeconds() return the number of frames and length (in seconds) of a recording (suggested by Steffen Barszus). - The subtitle PIDs are now stored in the channels.conf file as an extension to the TPID field (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg). - The new function cDevice::ProvidesEIT() is used to determine whether a device can provide EIT data and will thus be used in cEITScanner::Process() to receive EIT data from the channels it can receive (suggested by Rolf Ahrenberg). Note that by default it is assumed that a device can't provide EIT data, and only the builtin cDvbDevice returns true from this function. - The Audio and Subtitles options are now available through the Green and Yellow keys in the Setup/DVB menu (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg). This is mainly for remote controls that don't have dedicated keys for these functions. - The SVDRP command HITK now accepts multiple keys (up to 31). - The Recordings menu now displays the length (in hours:minutes) of each recording (thanks to Rolf Ahrenberg). Note that the "new" indicator has been moved from the recording time to the length column. This new format is also used by the SVDRP command LSTR, so in case you have an application that parses the LSTR output, you will need to adjust it to the new format. - The dvbsddevice plugin now supports the new option --outputonly, which disables receiving on SD FF devices and uses the device only for output (thanks to Udo Richter). - Fixed detecting frames on radio channels (reported by Chris Mayo). - Revoked the changes to cFrameDetector that have been introduced in version 1.7.19. length of running recording

Hello, I have small problem with running periodical recording on list view. Duration is actual only on first look. Every return to recording list show old not actualized value. It is same after recording finish. If this recording is in "root", it is ok. If it is periodical recording, it is not correct (recording is in "sub-directory" I am not found any way to actualize listed duration except vdr restart. Duration on playback status is correct, but in list of recordings still invalid. vdr 1.7.21 (I am not test older) Jiri

@Christian - Great - memory leak looks fixed - I attach a screenshot of memory use since Sunday. The peaks on the graph are from NX login sessions, otherwise the system is running at constant ~70% (vdr total is currently 1.6% = 32M). Thanks ! XBMC / VNSI discontinued?

Anyone have more detailed info? It seems pipelka has 'announced' that the VNSI addon is discontinued in favour of his own new XVDR addon. However, opdenkamp/dushmaniac doesn't look too happy about this situation... http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?s=3975431b107cbb88b3bfc0267a5b4bcc&p=877… How does this effect plans for yaVDR 0.4? Is someone already working on deb packaging of this new addon?
