EPG not purged if -E- option set

I run VDR 2.0.2 on a Raspberry Pi. The device runs continuously, so to avoid wearing out the SD card or needlessly spinning-up the USB disk drive I run VDR with the -E- option to prevent saving the EPG every 10 minutes. Today I created a timer for one programme in a long-running series and was surprised to find that the Series Link plugin had scheduled timers for earlier episodes, some broadcast several weeks ago! These timers were then automatically deleted of course. Looking at the code, it seems that cleaning up the EPG schedules is a side-effect of writing the data file, so the -E- option disables both. Having the EPG grow unbounded is perhaps not desirable on devices such as the Raspberry Pi which have limited memory and CPU. Dave

Archive-HDD functions

It is very hard to derive from VDRs original classes, because Klaus has set most class members private, instead of protected. So I have to implement everything myself, which is very unnecessary. I have written a patch to include the archive-hdd functions in VDR directly. I have tested it for a longer time, and it works without problems. With the patch included, I could continue my plugin with renaming and sorting functions more easy. Note, though, that this can only be a temporary workaround. This feature will be completely removed in one of the next developer versions. Distributing the video directory over several disks was a useful feature in times when disks were still relatively small, but it also caused serious problems in case one of the disks failed. Nowadays hard disks come in sizes measured in terabytes, and tools like "mhddfs" can be used to combine several disks to form one large volume. A recommended method for a relatively safe disk setup in a VDR system is to use two 1TB (or larger) disks and use them as a RAID-1 (mirrored). VDR jumps to old position after ff/rew

Hi all, I detected a strange behaviour in VDR 2.0.2: When I replay a recording and press right for fast forwarding and after some time press "up" to continue playing at this position vdr jumps back to the position where I started the forwarding. I would expect it to continue replay at the position where I forwarded to. Is this a known bug or do I have to press other keys or is there a setting to change it? Stefan

Channel dropout unless femon active

Perhaps a little off topic, but I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the following. I am viewing a signal that is very close to reception threshold - dish a little small, STR value 65%, SNR value 67%, but BER and UNC errors as reported by femon are zero. As long as I leave the femon plugin active on screen, I can view it uninterrupted. If I turn it off, within 60 seconds, the picture will disappear until I activate femon again. Initally it will only show "SIGNAL" and "CARRIER" indicators active, then after a short period, everything will lock again and the channel will re-appear. I am running the latest vdr version with a TT 6400 S2 full feature card, with latest drivers and firmware. Relevent drivers would be perhaps stv090x or stv6110x. Channel parameters DVB-S2, symbol rate 15000 FEC 3/5 QPSK Video 35Mb MPEG2 1920 x 1080, Audio MPEG 270Mb Regards, Richard

VDR needs some way to detect new tuners on runtime...

Hello, with event based init systems (in my case systemd) it seems to become a big issue to startup VDR. If you install VDR on a SSD device, then startup gets *really* fast. Sometimes that fast, that VDR starts before all devices are initialized. I've asked in the systemd mailinglist, if there is any way to get around this: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2013-August/012716.html The result: The "daemon" (VDR) needs some way to detect devices while runtime. So my question to Klaus: Is there something like this planned or would a patch be accepted which adds a feature like this? As far as I know a new dependency (libudev) would be needed. And the question to the group: Who would be able to create a patch like this? My C++ knowledge is very basic. Much too basic to do something like this. Greetings, Manuel

Deactivate a Tuner

Hi, I now a have a 4 Tuner Cine S2 setup that I want to run with 3 cables, I want to keep the fourth cable for a test VDR. Reading about this I only see how to do it together with the Dynamite Plugin, is that correct that I must use that Plugin to get it to work for VDR? I am currently running a plain VDR setup on Ubuntu, with very few plugins and had no need for the Dynamite Plugin up till now. Cheers Brian

recording problem: two timers on same channel are using both tuners of S2-6400

Hello everybody, during my periodic recording of "Criminal Minds" on SAT.1 (on Thursdays) I have periodically the situation that both tuners are blocked and I cannot view other channels at live TV. The first recording has not yet ended, the next recording on the same channel is starting minutes before the transmission of the next episode. Timer 1: 20:12 - 21:20, Channel 5 (Sat.1) Timer 2: 21:12 - 22:20, Channel 5 (Sat.1) No live TV on other transponders is possible (RTL, ARD, others). I am wondering whether other users also have this problem using VDR 2.0.2. If I remember it right the behavior was okay prior the final releases and the release candidates before. But I cannot specify it definitively. I am unsure about this may have to do with bonding changes (bonding does not apply in my simple environment), or about the fix introduced in VDR 1.4.42 (fix pending timers). Perhaps it's even older and I did not realize because we do not watch that much live TV :-) Best regards, Ingo PS: at this opportunity I would say many thanks to everybody contributing to this great project, good job at developing this great piece of software!

Channel IDs - DVB-C and IPTV

Additionally I want to add a part of a1tv (Austrian IPTV) to the setup. While watching IPTV does not pose any problems, getting the EPG into these IPTV-Channels does. a1tv does not provide EPG via the data stream so I added epgdata.com service to the VDR. This again is working fine as far as the DVB-C Channels are concerned. As for the IPTV it does not work at all. So, finally, here is the problem: In order to get EPG data into a channel one has to map a given Channel-EPG-ID with VDR's Channel-ID. Unfortunately many channels of a1tv provide the same Channel-ID on VDR. So I tried to modify the RID of these channels to get a unique Channel-ID (as mentioned in the manual files). Whem sending the EPG to VDR via PUTE the command does not accept the RID-extended Channel-ID.
