Possibly. However, I could be wrong but didn't Klaus recently say if anyone forks VDR, he would stop developing it? And it isn't as if there's a huge pool of coders working on VDR to begin with.
There have been forks before, especially for commercial projects. I guess what Klaus' meant was that a major community-driven fork that takes over the 'best vdr ever' lead position would mean the end to his 'second best vdr ever' project and to his major development role.
