So I'd like to compress the file and convert it to MP3 directly on the linux box, in order to compress it further.
I'am using a shell script for that. I do not know whether this still works, but gibe it a try ...
vdrsync.pl -audio-only -basename audio 0*.vdr lame -h --mp2input --tt "$TITLE" audio0.mpa filename.mp3
