I had some problems too with this plugin, and i replaced the vdrsync.pl by this one, ans now, everything is okay. I cannot be sure that is the same problem because you did not gave a lot of informations about what fails...
My own problem was that burn-plugin gave an error, and in the /var/log/messages, i had some messages like this one:
May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdb, sector 248 May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: hdb: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: hdb: command error: error=0x54 { AbortedCommand LastFailedSense=0x05 } May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown May 27 12:26:33 localhost kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdb, sector 0 May 27 12:26:33 localhost vdr[12287]: BURN: Subprocess watcher stopped
So if it is the same for you, try to change the vdrsync.pl ;)
