Hello,
if I have a look at the changes in 1.7.24, then for me it looks like the file "Make.config.template" is broken there. As Variables are set using "?=", the values in "Make.config.template" not longer override the defaults of "Makefile".
I'd vote for reverting this change. Any objections?
