Use the archive at gmane, that stores the attachments too.
Thanks for this tip. In gmane I can read the complete contents of your mails and even the attachments.
You can check out the current version (the vdr-dxr3-0-2 branch) ...
Ok, this branch works for me, the described changes are present there. Even my last proposal was added immediately to cvs, lets hope that this changement has no bad side effects.
