Sorry I don't know what top-posting is so if I am doing it again I apologise. Anyway I didn't use apt-get to get the source or anything debian specific, I just downloaded the source of the vdr homepage and compiled it the normal way. I think there is somthing wrong with the debian package because after compiling it myself it worked fine no problems.
Thanks

More importantly did you run make with "NO_KBD=1"?
Well actually I just used the debian package instead of compiling it myself. Compiling it pretty much worked fine first try :)
Hmm. That'd be with my all-in-one patch... "vdr --lirc" *should* be sufficient (you want to run it as user "vdr"). However: # update-alternatives --display vdr To change it (for example): # update-alternatives --set vdr /usr/bin/vdr-lirc
[snip]
Patch attached for reference. vdr is a symlink; vdr-kbd is the vdr binary; vdr-daemon, vdr-lirc, and vdr-remote are shell scripts of the form #! /bin/sh exec /usr/bin/vdr-kbd "$@" --lirc
Yea I actually did already do that update-alternatives stuff,
Then you should have said so earlier...
I did notice the vdr-lirc was just a shell script and I tried all different combinations but no matter what I tried it still happened.
No doubt that that includes "--no-kbd --lirc". (With a xine-lib-based front end, though, it appears to be better to leave the remote control to the front end. With current gxine, you need to use ~/.gxine/lircrc.)
Now I compiled it myself it doesn't really matter anyway, thanks though.
This is still a little odd. I don't see anything in there which would cause vdr's LIRC support (when enabled) to fail unless lircd isn't running; with my build of 1.3.24, it just works.
(I'm assuming that you got source for 1.2.6-12, 1.2.6-13 or my 1.3.24-1 via apt-get and that you rebuilt the packages by running 'debuild binary' or otherwise using the debian/rules file.)
BTW, don't top-post. Don't quote signatures or attachments (unless you're specifically referring to them)...
