If you had read the manual, you'd know that that "error" is normal, and should not be cared about. Additionally, use -P"xine -r" if you want the vdr keys in xine.
Also, even though the xine patches were applied to the xine-ui, I don't see the vdr keys on the xine app. Should I?
Yes, in the key map editor.
Just to make things clear: --enable-vdr-keys is an option to xine-ui's configure script (and may already be given to it's autogen.sh).
