IMHO a program should always run as the user who invoked it, unless told otherwise. Silently changing the userid does look very counterintuitive to me.
But then I'm a strong believer in "do what i told you", no "do what you think is the best for me", especially when it comes to computers.

I'll make it so that it runs under the user id of the caller, and only sets it to a different one if the caller is 'root' and the '-u' option is given (with a different user name than 'root').
For Ludwig Nussl there will be a Make.config option ;-)
