Hi,
It would be nice if there was proper bug tracking used for VDR development instead mailing list. See example from streamdev issue: http://www.vdr-developer.org/mantisbt/view.php?id=255
The tool is good for this purpose.
Same actually goes for this mailing list. Proper forum is much more convenient than mailing list because of proper threading etc. features. Could someone be able to set up the forum and most importantly would this discussion move to the forum?

I hate forums, since I have to chase messages on them, at most they send me an email message when there's a new message, and then I have to go to the forum. OTOH, with a mailing list everything is neatly ordered in my vdr folder (server side filtering takes care of that, but client side filtering can do that too) and readily available, I just have to press "N" or the "Next" button to see unread messages. As per the proper threading, any decent mail client can do it, thunderbird surely does.

bugtracking is for sure a nice tool, but for vdr alone i don't see the use of it. Often its one of the components which is making problems (a plugin/patch) and these are on thousend different locations (vdrportal thread , plugin websites etc pp.

I strongly disagree. Newsgroup and mail is still better then a forum.

If you prefer a forum you could try the english subsection on vdrportal or something similar.

Perhaps using Launchpad would be an idea then? It can be taught about projects and products, so you could have a vdr project with various products registered underneath it (ie vdr and all the components), then bugs can all be tracked in one place and easily moved from the vdr product to another component.
It's kinda a shame that so much work goes into the VDR community, but it's spread around the place and hard to keep track of. Hosting code branches on Launchpad (or at least mirroring them there), keeping bugs there and so on, would be very useful, imho.
Cheers,
