epgsearch adds the timers via SVDRP. Perhaps there's is something broken? Please try to add a timer with svdrpsend.pl and check the result.

Recording done by setting the timer myself result in valid folder names. Means the german umlauts are visible in the filesystem. However when recordings are done by an epgsearch timer the umlauts are broken.

This is what ls shows on my box
