Sometimes I know I recorded something a few days ago but can't remember the exact name or whether it was the channel name. If I could press a button and have the recordings sorted from most recent to oldest then it would be very easy to locate this recording.

I think it is possible with 0-key in the recording-list. But I think, you have to patch the vdr sources: http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Liemikuutio-patch
