How about adding the main debian repository:
deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free
which provides the mentioned missing vdr package.

vdrdevel currently requires vdr from e-tobi.net. Try this:
deb ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/projekte/vdr/sarge/testing/binary base/
#deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary vdr/multipatch/ deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary vdr/bigpatch/ deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary addons/ deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary base/

deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat testing main

And in addition I needed (for noad):
deb ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/projekte/vdr/sarge/testing/binary addons/
However, few critical components missing:
- subtitles plugin missing - No vdradmin suitable for vdr > 1.3.23 (or is there, at least I can't identify where and which package name?)
And no dxr3, but I was not even expecting it. However, those others are critical and commonly used.
Other issue is latencies with your packages. At least inmy setup vdr is really slow. For axample pressing 'back' during playback it shows several seconds black screen. I don't know if it is related to 1.3.23, plugins, patches or what, but there is really difference to my previous 1.3.22 (hand-compiled). Here are my plugins:
root@vdr:~/vdr3# ls -l /usr/lib/vdrdevel/plugins total 1912 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 288051 2005-04-02 11:07 libvdr-dxr3.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 140256 2005-04-01 02:33 libvdr-femon.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 326880 2005-03-28 15:34 libvdr-mp3.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 711744 2005-03-29 03:44 libvdr-muggle.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 92000 2005-03-21 02:50 libvdr-osdteletext.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 41056 2005-03-21 02:50 libvdr-pilot.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 40604 2005-03-21 02:52 libvdr-remote.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 156192 2005-03-31 03:08 libvdr-skinelchi.so.1.3.23 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 114496 2005-03-21 02:57 libvdr-ttxtsubs.so.1.3.23

This is not necessary. There is a vdr-addon-noad package on e-tobi too (deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary addons/).
However, few critical components missing:
- subtitles plugin missing
Cause there are no german channels with dvb subtitles I can not test the subtitles plugin. If you send me an tested package I'll put into the repository. A good start for creating a new plugin package is debianize-vdrplugin from vdr-dev or debianize-vdrdevelplugin from vdrdevel-dev.
- No vdradmin suitable for vdr > 1.3.23 (or is there, at least I can't identify where and which package name?)
The package vdradmin (deb http://www.e-tobi.net/vdr/sarge/experimental/binary addons/) works with vdrdevel-1.3.23 too.
And no dxr3, but I was not even expecting it. However, those others are critical and commonly used.
I have no dxr3 card. I would be glad if you could send me an tested package.
Other issue is latencies with your packages. At least inmy setup vdr is really slow. For axample pressing 'back' during playback it shows several seconds black screen.
I think this depends on the hardware. With my dvb-s card there aren#t such problems.

Which patchlevel do you use? Multipatch? Please, try with the standard patchlevel. If you change the patchlevel you have to run vdrdevelaptrefresh after "apt-get update".

It should be enough to lightly tweak my vdr-plugin-subtitles package and to apply its patch or the combined subtitles patch (which is what I use in case some who use my packages want/need ttxtsubs, which I can't test) to vdr.

Thank you! I adapted your source package to vdrdevel. The combined subtitles-ttxtsubs patch is already active in multipatch. So it should work.
Why do you set CXXFLAGS in debian/rules? Is there a problem with optimization -O2?
Could someone tell me where is a channel with dvb subtitles on Astra or Hotbird?

This is good :-)

I've noticed problems with that and gdb: variables' contents have been misreported. (Whether this is still the case, I've not checked.)
This kind of thing should be more fine-grained in $PLUGIN/Makefile, IMO.

Okay. I use the CXXFLAGS from upstream.

Do you know vdrdbg-buildpackage in ctvdr's vdr package and the vdr-dbg package?
@Markku Tavasti
I uploaded the vdrdevel-plugin-subtitles package to sarge/experimental/multipatch. Would you please test it?
Could you please tell me where is a channel with dvb subtitles on Astra or Hotbird? So I could test it myself.

Sorry for delay, my vdr does not have console, and my office does not have TV -> testing is hard :-(
Yes, plugin works. Thanks!
And now for rest of missing things:
------------------------------------
A) For dxr3 plugin, it seems to be moving target. Stable is too old, and development of 0.2.3 branch is active. Therefore I'm not providing you any package (since I don't have experience on building them), but I provide all the help I can. This is how you could build it:
1) apt-get install stow 2) Get http://www.tavastisolutions.com/~tavasti/em8300_debian_sarge.tgz (package contains needed includes & libs for dxr3 driver) 3) run: cd /usr/local/stow tar zxf /path/to/em8300_debian_sarge.tgz stow -v em8300-0.15.0-cvs20050326-patched-20050326' 4) apt-get install libavcodeccvs-dev libjpeg-mmx-dev 5) Get vdr-dxr3 from http://cachalot.mine.nu/src/dxr3/ 6) Build dxr3 package. Here my changes to Makefile:
VDRDIR = /usr/include/vdrdevel LIBDIR = /usr/lib/vdrdevel/plugins FFMDIR = /usr/include/ffmpeg EM8300 = /usr/local/include
------------------------------------
B) Streamdev would be nice. Here is version which should work with 1.3.23:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/peterweber69/
------------------------------------
Maybe with working streamdev and dxr3 I can get 'test vdr' running in my office, and can test faster. Or I don't know if my primary vdr (P350) is too slow for streamdev-server?
Thanks for great work!

I've been running for a while vdr with a skystar2 and streamdev-server on a p100.
