Hi! I reworked my ancient vdr system and build a new hardware around my DVB-S card (after a long time of not-usage).
I want to use my server using a diskless architecture to run vdr.
Idea, which dritribution for vdr to choose ?
I intend to have a Debian/Ubuntu system for the vdr system, the distri should be easy updateable, but up-to-date current.
I do not want to do manual updates in the form (get source, build, test, install, get plugins, etc.) the building / testing / installing from pure source is nice, makes fun, but I do not have the time for doing that this way.
So, which remote boot capaple distri do you use ? Which is best to choose ?
TIA

I'm using debian (server, diskless client) with e-tobis VDR repository.Don't know, if it's the best... http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=40936 (german)

Same here. I'm happy with the full-Debian setup. I will also convert my first VDR system from disk-based to diskless (it already stores recordings on the NFS share). The second diskless system is good enough.
The little EPIA EK8000 running as the server is good enough to serve multiple NFS clients + diskless boots + my 2 VDRs (2 recordings + 2 replaying at the same time, from both VDRs).

Same here as other diskless VDR users : Debian , on server as well as client.
IIRC, I used the "diskless" package to setup my VDR environment on the server. From there you can use whatever compatible Debian repository which had VDR packaged.
And no issue with recordings over NFS (timeshifting works just nice as well)
It sure worth doing it, as the PC's noise level has dramatically dropped down :)
Thanks
Philippe
