Great that the subtitles are now part of the VDR. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problems still. I tested this new VDR version for some minutes and noticed that some subtitles were shown too late in live tv watching. I didn't check how the timing of subtitles is done, but it seemed that VDR missed one "sync-point" and after that all the subtitles were shown one "sync-point" too late. Channel change seemed to correct the situation for a while.
Similar problem was seen on two channels, so I think that the broadcast was ok in this case. Also, I haven't seen similar problems earlier with subtitles-plugin. I didn't notice this kind of error either when viewing recordings made with subtitles-plugin. I didn't test yet if the problem can be seen also with recordings made with 1.5.10, but I think I can test that later today.
Testing was done with VDR 1.5.10 without any plugins, TT FF 2.1 DVB-C card and YLE 2 and YLE Teema channels here in Finland.
Anyone else seen this kind of problems?

I don't know is there same reason or not, but xine plugin crash within one minute on channels with subtitles (YLE1 for instance).
Last syslog entry is:
Oct 16 16:40:41 vdr vdr: [25576] subtitleConverter thread started (pid=25486, tid=25576)
And xine output:
SetPlayMode: 0 SetAudioChannelDevice: 0 SetPlayMode: 1 [vVMSetDigitalAudioDevice: 0 SetAudioChannelDevice: 0 A]buffered 14,2 frames (v:23,3, a:14,2) read(4) returned 0, error 0: Success vdr-xine: Client disconnected!
My config: vdr-1.5.10 with femon, remote and xine plugins, KNC1 DVB-C budget card.

vdr-xine-0.7.11 doesn't support multiple OSDs but it shouldn't crash. 0.7.12 is on the way. I've run a 1 hour test yesterday on TV5MONDE EUROPE, as mentioned in this mailing list. But I cannot tell anything about correct sync, because I didn't understand the audio track of this broadcast.
Bye.

vdr-xine-0.7.12 crashing without notice on YLE channels with subtitles as well.
I discovered that TV5 Monde transmitted on local cable network too, but I didn't seen any subtitles yet on this chhnnel, only SPID's. Is there any fixed time when subtitles presents on TV5?

Please run xine with --verbose=2 and send me the output.
It would further be helpful to analyse a core dump of xine-lib/xine-ui with debug symbols enabled. To create one, configure xine-lib/xine-ui like that:
CFLAGS='-g3 -O0' ../xine-lib/configure --prefix=/soft/xine-lib-cvs --enable-debug --disable-optimizations
CFLAGS='-g3 -O0' ../xine-ui/configure --prefix=/soft/xine-ui-cvs --enable-debug --disable-optimizations --enable-vdr-keys
Enable coredumps with
ulimit -Sc unlimited
before running xine from that terminal.

I took a recording of "La Crim'" on last Monday evening.
Bye.

Not exactly. I haven't noticed any out of sync problems, but yesterday during YLE's Prisma document the subtitling just vanished. No subtitles tracks were available, when I tried to select the language in subtitles menu. The problem was solved by changing the channel to another and back and subtitles were available again...
Another minor problem I've noticed few times is a picture freeze for a second. This is a new feature on my setup after VDR's integrated subtitling and the freeze has happen always on channels with DVB subtitles...

I noticed this also once and actually got it into recording also, playback freezed for a second always at that certain point. But unfortunately I have deleted the recording already. It was also program with DVB subtitles.

I also noticed that subtitles disappeared when I was watching YLE TV1, but they also went missing from cable television provider's analog channel later.
About the same time when subtitles vanished the following entry was written to the log:
Oct 16 21:02:22 jupiter vdr: [2515] subtitleConverter thread started (pid=2452, tid=2515) Oct 16 21:05:30 jupiter vdr: [2509] switching to pre 1.3.19 Dolby Digital compatibility mode Oct 16 21:05:30 jupiter vdr: [2509] setting audio track to 1 (0)
Why to switch to pre 1.3.19 Dolby Digital compatibility mode?
I didn't notice any sync problems or picture freeze. I'm using satellite FF card with cable budget card.

I confirm the same logfile entry. I was watching "heute" on ZDF (ASTRA 19.2E) a few minutes ago. Subtitles appeared as expected, but after a while, the above log entry appeared, and there were no more changes on screen regarding subtitles.
From that time on, every subtitle caused a "crack" in the dolby audio
track and vdr-xine reported some FIXME's in code which deals with dolby audio packets.
It seems to me, that subtitle packets slip through as "ancient" dolby audio packets.
I took a short recording ("Wetter"), which can be used to reproduce the problem.
Bye.

The attached patch makes the device wait for at least 10 "ancient" dolby packets before it actually switches to the old mode. That way it can overcome short glitches, which apparently happen sometimes with subtitle tracks. Of course, the problem is *why* do these glitches occur in the first place, so maybe this is just a temporary workaround...

I just confirm this behavior. Some subtitles were shown too late and too shot in live tv watching. Playback same stream from recording looks correctly. Old dvbsubtitles patch+plugin (with my modification http://dvbn.happysat.org/viewtopic.php?t=42136) works fayn on same channel.

Unfotunately that URL requires a login :-(
I'm currently trying to figure out why subtitles in live mode are totally out of sync, while the same broadcast works fine when watched as a recording. So far I haven't found the reason, yet...

I've adopted these fixes into my subtitles patches about two weeks ago: PES extension is not flagged anymore for every packet. Sorry about the bug and "broken" recordings, but for my knowledge this doesn't have any effect on VDR but ProjectX, etc.

Hi!
I just changed to 1.5.10. I set at Install - DVB menu subtitles on, selecting "Fin - Eng - Sve" as three subtitles types (yes, I have tried just one, Fin - too) I set at Keymacros.conf one "User"-key to Subtitles
When I go to channel (YLE 1/YLE 2) what uses subtitles, I get OSD info " DBV Subtitles", pressing Enter removes that text. But can not see any subtitles at screen.
Pressing that "User" key brings information that there is subtitles (Fin) at present and it is selected, but still no subtitles..
Have I forget to do something?!?

DVB subtitles don't work correctly in live mode in VDR 1.5.10.
Meanwhile I found that it works ok if you change the line
ts2pes[numTracks++] = new cTS2PES(*SPids++, resultBuffer, IPACKS, 0x00, 0x20 + n++);
in remux.c to
ts2pes[numTracks++] = new cTS2PES(*SPids++, resultBuffer, 30000, 0x00, 0x20 + n++);

I have not noticed any problems with the new subtitling solution yet other than the one with dolby packets, for which you already provided a patch which solved that one. Are there some other known problems?

In live mode the subtitles are displayed way out of sync (much too late) and only for a very short time. At least that's on the German ZDF channel. The modification I've posted seems to fix this.
Klaus
Let me correct myself :) I made a VDR restart (very unusual for me:) ), and now the subtitles (BBC Prime - UPC ) are just fine with the patch applied.

I can confirm that Hungarian subtitles (on UPC Direct 19.2) are also working much better with this "patch". They are well synchronized, the only strange thing is, that after a very short time the subtitles dissapears for a fraction of a second, but then it is redisplayed, and stays until it has to.

If you are using xineliboutput, you should update to the cvs version.
