I get this message (vdr: no primary device found - using first device!) when I run vdr on my Linux box.
Can anyone help me get the vdr software work?

You're probably using a "budget" dvb card without any video output? You need the softdevice plugin. See http://softdevice.berlios.de
Please provide a "lspci -vx", seems like the problem I had last week. The eeprom on the board had a different subsystem- an device-id that vdr expect.
Have a look here(german) http://www.vdrportal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=33221&sid= http://www.vdrportal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=28214&sid=
There is a link for a tool "fix_eeprom.o" setting this id correct.

No, my card (Hauppauge/TT WinTV Nexus-S Rev 2.3) is a full-featured card.
Maybe some module driver is missing ...?

For a Nexus rev. 2.3 you have to use the latest drivers from dvb-kernel CVS. -> http://www.linuxtv.org/cvs.php

I read (but I dont' understand german language) the pages you referenced. They talk about a different device ID [Unknown device aa55:aa55]. My code is 13c2:000e. I got the module "fix_eeprom.o" but I'm not sure to use it (and how ...).

Hi! Mauro
Hi
be careful, old version of drivers use developer major number 250, instead of 212 that's the new officially assigned major number.

You should fix these errors.

What do you expect? vdr operates on the tv output of the full-featured card. Just connect your tv set to the video output of your Nexus card.

Now I've fixed those problems about themes and lirc. But my Nexus card doesn't have a tv-out plug.
I should configure vdr to use my computer monitor as video output (if possible). I'm going to look once more at the documentation whether something like that is possible and how.
Or maybe you have suggestions?
Thank you again Mauro

vdr-xine or vdr-softdevice
or vdr-xineliboutput. See today's thread "EPIA M with FF Card" (which talks about software devices, contrary to what the subject suggests).

Is it a Nova then?
Otherwise, most Nexus have internal jumper blocks where the RGB signal is available. If you are a little bit in soldering it should be possible to build a Scart adapter.

Ops! Sorry, I was a bit confused: Hauppauge Nexus-s _HAS_ a tv-out plug.
I forgot about that because I'm not going to use it (I don't have a TV set near my computer).
