The attached file hangs vdr >= 1.3.25 when I press the info button on the recording. The file was created by and works fine with vdr < 1.3.25.

from the announcement of vdr 1.3.25:
- The file 'summary.vdr' has been replaced with 'info.vdr' and now contains the information about a recording, in the same format as the events are stored in 'epg.data' (see man vdr(5) for details). Existing summary files can be converted to the new format by running the Perl script 'summary2info.pl', as in
summary2info.pl /video

And of course vdr < 1.3.25 cannot read info.vdr files. I have more than one VDR machine sharing the same /video, so for me it is best to use the "lowest common denominator" which is clearly summary.vdr.
In any event, I bet the same hang can be reproduced with an info.vdr file as well, but don't you think summary.vdr files should work without hanging vdr as long as vdr reads them at all?

Are you sure this file was actually created by VDR itself?
The expected syntax of a summary.vdr file is
Single line title <empty line> Single line short text <empty line> Description may consist of several lines
In your case there is no empty line between the title and "D 1998", which makes the longish description the "Short text" - and that leads to irritations.
Simply insert a blank line after the title and it works (at least it does here).

Yes, 100%. It was created by vdr using a timers.conf entry created by epg2timers, though.
I have several old recordings with summary files like this that hang vdr.
OK. I guess I should go though all my summary.vdr files then and check whether the second and fourth line is blank.
Of course my point is that VDR should never hang when reading a file that it has created itself. Would you like me to create a patch this weekend that fixes this?

Anyway, as promised, here is the patch that does not only prevent VDR from hanging/crashing (*), but also displays summaries that do not have a short text correctly.
