Hi all!
I have used
UpdateChannels = 4
in my setup.conf.
I can see in the syslog that vdr is doing lots of updating, which is what I want. But it does not save these updates to channels.conf for some reaon. So whenever I restart vdr it has to get all the updates done from scratch.
Is this by design or do I have a problem?
I am running vdr 1.4.0.

Since 1.3.13, VDR saves the channels.conf on manual user editing, or every 10 minutes in case of automatic channel updates. So maybe you simply did not wait long enough?
If it really does not save, even after manual channel editing, check the syslog for error messages. For example, there may be access rights problems on saving the file.

Udo (and others),
I found that it also saves (overwrites) setup.conf upon shutdown. Well, I guess the idea is to save the user's configuration in case VDR is used interactively (with a full-featured card and OSD menus).
Wouldn't it make sense to make VDRs behaviour a bit more consistent here and also save any unsaved changes to channels.conf upon shutdown?
By the way: Does VDR listen to any signals, for example SIGHUP to re-read the config?
