Hi guys I am running debian unstable. I have got lirc working fine because when i type irw and press buttons on the remote it says I am pressing the buttons that I am. Also I have got my dvb card setup fine because I can tune to different stations using tzap. When I run vdr all is well except it keeps trying to setup the keyboard controls. Despite everything I try it never lets me setup remote control buttons instead! I have tried running "vdr-lirc", "vdr --lirc", "runvdr --lirc" etc... every time its the same. Sorry if this is a common question or somthing but I searched a lot and got nowhere! Thanks.

Didya read INSTALL ? Didya run 'make' with 'REMOTE=LIRC'
Well actualy I just used the debian package instead of compiling it myself. Compiling it pretty much worked fine first try :) Cheers guys

Hmm. That'd be with my all-in-one patch... "vdr --lirc" *should* be sufficient (you want to run it as user "vdr"). However:
# update-alternatives --display vdr
To change it (for example):
# update-alternatives --set vdr /usr/bin/vdr-lirc
You can restore the default (currently vdr-daemon) as follows:
# update-alternatives --auto vdr
Don't forget to restart vdr:
# invoke-rc.d vdr restart
Patch attached for reference. vdr is a symlink; vdr-kbd is the vdr binary; vdr-daemon, vdr-lirc, and vdr-remote are shell scripts of the form
#! /bin/sh exec /usr/bin/vdr-kbd "$@" --lirc
Yea I actualy did already do that update-alternatives stuff, I did notice the vdr-lirc was just a shell script and I tried all different combinations but no matter what I tried it still happened. Now I compiled it myself it doesn't really matter anyway, thanks though.

I did notice the vdr-lirc was just a shell script and I tried all different combinations but no matter what I tried it still happened.
No doubt that that includes "--no-kbd --lirc". (With a xine-lib-based front end, though, it appears to be better to leave the remote control to the front end. With current gxine, you need to use ~/.gxine/lircrc.)
Now I compiled it myself it doesn't really matter anyway, thanks though.
This is still a little odd. I don't see anything in there which would cause vdr's LIRC support (when enabled) to fail unless lircd isn't running; with my build of 1.3.24, it just works.
(I'm assuming that you got source for 1.2.6-12, 1.2.6-13 or my 1.3.24-1 via apt-get and that you rebuilt the packages by running 'debuild binary' or otherwise using the debian/rules file.)
BTW, don't top-post. Don't quote signatures or attachments (unless you're specifically referring to them)...
Sorry I don't know what top-posting is so if I am doing it again I apologise. Anyway I didn't use apt-get to get the source or anything debian specific, I just downloaded the source of the vdr homepage and compiled it the normal way. I think there is somthing wrong with the debian package because after compiling it myself it worked fine no problems.
Thanks

You did: it's the putting of *all* of the new text above the quoted text. You've also quoted everything (including my .sig) again; that's also considered to be bad practice.
Anyway I didn't use apt-get to get the source or anything debian specific, I just downloaded the source of the vdr homepage and compiled it the normal way. I think there is somthing wrong with the debian package because after compiling it myself it worked fine no problems.
<fiddles about a bit in a chroot>
Hmm. 1.2.6-13 "works" here with LIRC - it starts up happily then just sits there waiting for input which (apparently) never arrives, although that /could/ be a lircd problem. It definitely works in daemon mode.
[snip .sig - *don't* quote it!]
Hi, I have the following problem: I want to see the HDTV Films shown on ProSiebenHD but the pictures are not very good. My PC is fast enough, but I think it is a problem of the drivers that there are many dropped frames. So, in IRC on vdrportal.de one said to my that I have to install the XvMC in Xine. To make Xine with XvMC available to other users, I demanded Tobi to debianise it. But there are a lot of problems. I don't know what to do to make Xine running on the PCs of some other users running a Debian system. What should I do?

That doesn't sound like a LIRC-related problem.

Darren makes the scary man about netiquette, but he also has a great Debian repository ;-) What you look for is here. Depending on you actual video chip, you should also get the right XFree of X.org X server, the one with the XvMC driver compiled. If you have nVidia, Debian XFree should be sufficient. If you have CLE266, try this one : http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/~glaweh/debian/

What do you mean by this? Did I say that that problem depends on lirc? I just wanted to know how to get XvMc as a deb package for Xine

You used the reply button of your mail user agent, starting from a post talking about LIRC. Well-behaved user-agents (Mozilla Thunderbird for instance) show this kind of post as a child of the replied-to one. So, when starting a new thread, create a new mail from scratch, and rely on your address-book to put the right destination address. Don't reply to something random in your folder, as the randomness is memorized even if you replace the subject...
