Pb with softdevice and vdr in deamon mode

Hello I'm trying to setup vdr with a budget card (only, no ff card) and softdevice. When I launch vdr and softdevice from a terminal, everything is working fine (with xv) But I'd like to set up vdr as a daemon (i.e. launched by init.d) so recording can begin even if I'm not logged. So far, I've managed to run vdr (from debian package) and softdevice after some crude hacks: - I've added and 'export DISPLAY=:0.0' in /etc/init.d/vdr - I must be logged in and perform a xhost local: I'd like to be able to run vdr as a daemon with softdevice plugin loaded. For this I need softdevice to not try to connect to X11 until a command is sent to vdr daemon (either through the remote control or SVDRP). This command would need to contain the display name to connect to. Does this sound reasonnable ? (or did I miss something ?) Thanks

Before that, xine showed the information of the NOSIGNAL stream. - Several MPEG1 related fixes. - Several fixes concerning playing of externally generated VDR recordings (thanks to Fabian Wolter for supplying a recording). - Fixed compilation for VDR-1.3.32. - Playing a still image could make vdr-xine wait for further video packets (this issue showed up from time to time when using the vdr-radio plugin). *** NO CHANGES TO XINE THIS TIME *** BTW: The known issue concerning the delay in playback when switching to trick speed mode is still not solved, but maybe it has improved a little bit with version 0.7.5. vdr-xine and alsa audio mixer

Hello list, I've setup vdr with the xine plugin and am very impressed, but I can't seem to control it's audio independently of other audio apps. I want a setup where I can mute the vdr-xine DVB audio and load / listen to an audio CD / mp3 / DVD. I'm using Ubuntu Breezy and when I change the volume in xine / vdr-xine it seems to alter volume of any other audio apps eg totem. Infact it seems to alter the PCM level in alsamixer. I don't know a great deal about alsa, but I've read about my soundcard (an ATI IXP, integrated on MSI RS480M2 motherboard) and apparently it doesn't support hardware mixing and I need to use the dmix plugin. Well I tried that, and it works with alsaplay, but I can't get xine to use the dmix plugin. Has anyone got any ideas? -RichardW.

Hi, I have my own reasons for this proposal, but it may be worth discussion in light of the previous thread. There seems to be a general need to merge/modify epg data both as part of the epg and once a program becomes a timer. is it not worth storing this extended/modified epg data in a new field in xml format. VDR could treat it as a single large string, and external programs/plugins their own way. If there was a common agreement on how to identify which format or even an agreed single format, many programs could benefit. Many already offer web/web service interfaces so already have some infrastucture to support this. as long as changes to the records are atomic then merge, change, extend, comment all become supported, it may even be possible to allow multiple programs to re-use the string simulaneously if the right document structure is chosen. I realise this proposal increases the work required by plugins and external programs, but I would hope there would be some long term benefits to tagging epg/timers with additional data. Klaus I understand you have a reluctance to depend on external libraries, hence the big string proposal. Instant forwards compatibility without overcomplicating the core of vdr :-) Its got to be a good thing. how about a stucture something like this? <DOC> <APP1_DATA version="1.0"> <Whatever/> </APP1_DATA> <APP2_DATA> <something_else/> </APP2_DATA> <APP3_DATA/> </DOC> My own requirement is to have a smart merge function. I currently have a number of scripts that merge a web based program guide, vdr epg data and imdb data into xml based records so I can index my recordings. UK epg data does not include series/episode data, I prefer the web site long descriptions and I want more data from imdb. Currently its not worth me even trying to merge it in until after it has left vdr. Simon

hello vdr-ng and -ml, the short description i've done: i've installed first xine-lib via a gentoo ebuild, than xine-ui via a ebuild, too and last vdr with some plugins, also the xine-plugin, by hand. compiling and installing xine-lib and xine-ui: the ebuilds used the xine-patches v0.7.6 and uses the path /var/vdr/xine for the sockets. here the ebuilds, if you want to see: http://www.deac.mynetcologne.de/xine-ui-0.99.4-r2.ebuild http://www.deac.mynetcologne.de/xine-lib-1.1.0-r4.ebuild this are merges from the original ebuilds an the older newest from gentoo.de. compiling vdr: i don't used the original vdr-1.3.32-tarball. instead a patched-version: http://www.hoochvdr.info/files/vdr-1.3.32-patched-plugins.091105.1.tar.bz2 a link xine to xine-0.7.6 exists. the Make.conf i created with some changes. the xine-Makefile a changed, too, because the path /var/vdr/xine. it compiled fine, without errors. installing vdr: with "make install" i installed everything. it copys the plugins to /usr/lib/vdr, the configs to /etc/vdr and vdr to /usr/bin. sure! starting vdr: ,----[ vdr started ] | % LANG=C vdr --config=/etc/vdr --lib=/usr/lib/vdr \ | --plugin="xine -r" --plugin=yaepg | SetVideoFormat: 0 | SetAudioChannelDevice: 0 | SetVolumeDevice: 255 | SetPlayMode: 1 | [vVMSetDigitalAudioDevice: 0 | SetAudioChannelDevice: 0 | aA+14+17+50+50+50+50] `---- everything ok. channels ready. plugins loaded, xine, too, with following error: "ERROR: remote control XineRemote not ready!" i read, that this is normal and no problem. and "ERROR: 9736 ring buffer overflows (1830368 bytes dropped)", which i think isn't important, because it's only a ringbuffer in vdr. the streams in /var/vdr/xine exists. starting xine: % xine -V xv -A alsa vdr:/var/vdr/xine/stream\#demux:mpeg_pes xine starts and than i get an error: ,----[ xine engine error ] | There is no input plugin avaible to handle | 'vdr:/var/vdr/xine/stream#demux:mpeg_pes'. | Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist. `---- if i press on "More" i get some messages, one is the following: ,----[ messages ] | xine: found demuxer plugin: Elementary MPEG stream demux plugin | xine: found input plugin: file input plugin | xine: found demuxer plugin: mpeg pes demux plugin | xine: found input plugin: VDR display device plugin | video_out: throwing away image with pts 63477 because it's too old (diff: | 20022) | [ ... last lines more than one ... ] `---- are the last lines with video_out the problem? i think not, it's video_out, not video_in. ,----[ vdr-output ] | [...] | vdr-xine: Client connecting ... | ::write(8) returned -1, error 32: Broken pipe | vdr-xine: Client disconnected! | vdr-xine: Client connect failed! `---- last words: i don't know, what can i do. this is the twice, that i try to install vdr and xine. the last time, i get to run it. now not. the problem, that portage overwrite my xine-packages, i tried to resolve, that i use (own) ebuilds. on gmane.org i searched for the same errors, but i found nothing. google knows this errors, but the most have the problem, that they forgotten --enable-vdr-keys, but i haven't forgotten it. i hope somebody can help me, thanks. denis

So you are able to rewind and watch a interesting scene again. Or you have seen a movie from the beginning but didn't record it. With the LiveBuffer you can record it completely, if it is in the livebuffer. You can enable/disable the livebuffer in the recording menu: LiveBuffer: Turns on/off the livebuffer LiveBufferSize: The max. size (in MB) of one livebuffer Go automatically into Replaymode: If you press a key like play,pause, ..., you come automatically into the replaymode Keep paused LiveBuffer: If activated, a LiveBuffer, which you have paused or rewinded, will be continued even if you switch channel. Keep last LiveBuffer: The last livebuffer will always be kept, if possible Last LiveBuffers: Number of last livebuffers, which should be kept. Zap Timeout (s): The time until a livebuffer recording counts as "last" for option 'Keep last LiveBuffer' Min. user inactivity (min): After this time the livebuffer shutsdown. '0' means that there will be no shutdown. Frameswait: The number of frames, which have to be received, until the replay of the livebuffer starts How to control the livebuffer: In normal liveview you can pause, rewind, ... with the according key. The play key displays the progress bar of the livebuffer. If you have no such keys like play, pause, FastRew, ..., you can go into the replaymode by pressing menu -> blue. There you can control the livebuffer like a normal replay. With the 'back'-key you jump to the position where you interrupted the live replay. If 'Keep paused LiveBuffer' is activated, the livebuffer will be continued after channel switch, when you had paused the replay before. The 'stop'-key jumps to the end of the buffer and the livebuffer doesn't count as paused anymore. As the livevideo is continously recorded, it is possible to get the just seen scene into a normal recording: - You can simply create a new timer. If the starttime is in the past, then the already seen part of the recording will be added. - Or you rewind to the startpoint and start an instant recording (by pressing the rec-key or menu -> red) - Of course you can cut the livebuffer like a normal recording. Press '0' for setting the marks and '2' starts the cutting proccess. (You have to be in the replaymode for this)

vdradmin yellow timers

Hi, I'm using vdradmin to set timers. I have one ff dvb-s and one budget dvb-t card. When I set two timers on same time but different cards the timers turn yellow and show the 'no more timers on other transponders possible'. If I set two timers for example in the dvb-t card in the same time and transponder they are green. My question is if the yellow color of vdradmin timers means that are incorrect and vdr will only active one of they or is a warning but the two timers will be activated. Thanks
