Freecom DVB-T stick - can't open filter handle on demux0

Just a bit of a nudge - I thought I'd try this again with a newer kernel and VDR (2.6.17 in Ubuntu edgy and VDR 1.4.4) in case something small and subtle had been fixed. Alas no, the original problem still stands as-is: http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/vdr/2006-July/010115.html I've made an even more rudimentary setup of vanilla VDR + skincurses plugin. No FF card, no output devices.. just a curses console and I still regularly get Nov 27 22:26:26 plip vdr: [10131] ERROR: can't open filter handle on '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' on channel changes - `lsof -n | grep demux` still shows only 8 or 9 file descriptors open :( A shame, I'd love to have VDR working with this device - does anyone have any advice, since it works just great in Kaffeine! Performance problems.

Hello, My setup is as follows: - VDR machine is a Via EN 1500. This machine has a 1.5 GHz processor and 512 Mb ram. In it is a FF technotrend card. This machien has no harddisk and boots over the network from: - Server: Dell With dual core processor, and SATA disks. Network is Gigabit Ethernet, for file sharing I use NFS. - On the VDR machine I compiled a VDR 1.4.4 from source, with the "remote" plugin, so I could us the remote sensor that came with the card. Experiences so far: - Watching FTA channels goes extremely well. Diseqc (I have a Technisat Multytenne) works. Quality of the DVB card output is very good. - Chaning channels is fast. - Navigating the menu is slow. For some reason there is a big enough delay between me pressing a button on the remote and the selected menu entry changing. As a result I often end "overshooting" what I intend to select. Is there a way to improve this? - Pausing live TV is not very good. It takes VDR several seconds before it starts recording. Afterwards play back sometimes skips, and sound and image lose synchroisation. If I try to watch recorded shows playback is also sometimes halts or skips. What can I do about this? Hint needed: 3 budget cards and Astra / Hotbird

Hi, I recently added a third budget card to my VDR which contained 2 budgets pointing at Astra so far (using softdevice for decoding): 00:0a.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01) 00:0f.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01) 00:0a.0 Class 0480: 1131:7146 (rev 01) 00:0f.0 Class 0480: 1131:7146 (rev 01) /var/log/messages says DVB: registering new adapter (Fujitsu Siemens Activy Budget-S PCI (rev GR/grundig frontend)). DVB: registering new adapter (TT-Budget/WinTV-NOVA-CI PCI). During my first runs I had connected the third LNB to one of the budgets by just moving one sat cable to the new LNB. I could watch all channels from Astra and Hotbird O.K. The SkyStar2 was not connected so far. Now adding the SkyStar2 card: 00:0b.0 Class 0280: 13d0:2103 (rev 01) 00:0b.0 Network controller: Techsan Electronics Co Ltd B2C2 FlexCopII DVB chip / Technisat SkyStar2 DVB card (rev 01) DVB: registering new adapter (FlexCop Digital TV device). This card is connected to a LNB pointing at Hotbird. dvbscan shows all the channels on the respecive cards just fine. I generated the channels.conf listing using dvbscan. But from then on, I could either see the Astra channels or the Hotbird channels within VDR, never both sets at the same time. It appears as if only card #0 is active (the Activy card), no matter which LNB is connected to which budget card. What am I missing? As far as I know there is no way (and no point) in telling VDR to use cards #0 and #1 for Astra and #2 for Hotbird. Is that a known problem between (certain versions of) budget/-ci and b2c2 cards / drivers? Versions: dvb-1.1.0_CVS20051019-17 (OpenSUSE 10.1) in kernel 2.6.16.13-4-default vdr-1.4.1 softdevice-0.3.1 w/ ffmpeg-0.4.9 / DirectFB-0.9.25.1 / DFB++-0.9.25 / linux-fusion-3.2 Any hint is appreciated! -- Every nonzero finite dimensional inner product space has an orthonormal basis. It makes sense, when you don't think about it.

Rotor plugin give Seg Fault -- need help!

Hi there, trying to set up the Rotor plugin but running into issues. When I fire up VDR 1.4.4 with my Twinhan 1020a card, and a diseqc rotor with GOTOX, I can go to the configure menu for the plugin rotor, but when I select rotor from the main menu, vdr immediately seg faults and stops. Has anyone seen this, and if so, is there a fix to the problem? Thanks Norm

VDR keeps restarting.

Hello, I've installed VDR on an ubuntu box, uding the ubuntu packages. (I plan to build one from sources though). This gives me VDR version 1.4.0 First I started VDR with the option to use a NFS mount as the place to store its recordings. VDR worked, and I could watch FTA channels. Recording didn't work wel though, and I suspected that the NFS was to slow, so I changed the video dir to a local one. After that change VDR won't start anymore. runvdr keeps restarting vdr after 11 seconds, and I have absolutely no idea why. There is no information in any logfile whatsoever that gives any hints as to what might have been going on. - Hence my questions: Is it possible to get VDR to be more verbose in its logging? - Is it possible to make VDR log to its own logfile? - What might be causing the restarts evere 11 seconds? VDR recordings and Apple iMovie / iDVD

Hi, has anyone successfully used a Mac and the apps in Apple's iLife suite to (edit and) burn VDR recordings? I'm happy playing them back using VLC, but since the Apple apps only understand the formats supported by Quicktime (and mpeg2 not being one of them), they don't work directly. I'm looking at a couple of options, and before trying further I thought I'll ask if someone's had success already. 1. Buy Apple's MPEG2 decoder. Wouldn't want to invest $20 before knowing it will definitely work. 2. Use VLC to transcode. Takes forever and with my short trial, the output didn't quite work with iMovie. 3. Hi list, My newest plugin project has reached its first milestone and allows first practical use, so its time to publicly announce it: OSDServer is a plugin that allows external programs to use the OSD and the menu system of VDR. Access is done via TCP/IP and a simple script language that is primarily designed to be handled by perl programs and shell scripts. Until now, interactive VDR extensions were only available to C++ coders, but with this plugin, script coders can use the OSD too. Version 0.0.1 only has a minimal set of commands for creating simple menus and OSD messages, but can already be used for user interaction. A simple example program is included, in perl and in bash version. This plugin release is a first test version only, to get some feedback for future development. xineliboutput shutting down remote

Hi. I'm using vdr-sxfe on a remote machine. Is there a way to shutdown the remote PC (like the 'halt.sh') on the remote box? If I hit the remote control power button, it sends this command to the head-end VDR and shuts that down. Or would I need to write a 'command' on the head-end to script shutting down the remote VDR? Thanks
