Standard AC3 component descriptor handling

I am currently working on making the switch from PES to TS as the VDR recording format, that's why there are currently no new versions of VDR. However, since the German ARD channels are going to start broadcasting the standard AC3 component descriptor some time next week, I'm publishing the attached patch that implements this in VDR 1.7.0. From what I have been told, Premiere was the first provider that actually broadcasted AC3 audio, and they chose not to use the standard stream content value of '4' ("AC-3 audio"), but instead used stream content value '2' with component type '5' ("MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio, surround sound"). And since they "certify" all their receivers, this wrong decision was quickly adopted by other broadcasters, and became a "pseudo standard". Note that this patch is not necessary to receive AC-3 audio on the ARD channels. They will still be broadcasting the old descriptors in parallel with the new ones for about a year, so existing VDRs will work just fine. This is just to let people who like to test this actually do so. The channel MEHRKANALTEST;ARD:12421:hC34M2O0S0:S19.2E:27500:0:2001=deu;2002=deu:0:0:28397:1:1201:0 already broadcasts the new AC3 descriptor and can be used for testing (no video, just audio test tones). playing 2 audio streams at the same time

Hello, Is it possible with vdr, to send one audio channel to the headphones and the other audio channel to the speakers (or another headphones)? Example: we watch a film recorded from Arte, and my wife wants to listen to the french, and I want to listen to the german audio channel. If it's possible, what version do I need at least and what must be configured? If not, please consider this as a feature request. Kind regards and thanks for this great software! Finnish DVB-C channel "Nelonen HD" - h264

Hi! I have vdr-1.7.0 installed and when I tune to that "Nelonen HD" channel, I get very disordered picture and sound. And lot's of errors. TV channel logo collection - logo requests and illustrator/freehand help

Hi, the TV channel logo graphics collection installed on my vdr has about 650 logos, many of them out of date, some of them in bad shape. So it might be a good idea to update the collection. Asking my lawyer confirmed that distributing TV channel logo graphics for open source software is problematic: You shouldn't do this unless you have written permission by the logos' owners. Much to my surprise, /if/ you ask them and explain the specific purpose, the logo owners /do/ grant permission to distribute their logo graphics for use in non-commercial open-source software. So far, noone turned down the request and I have collected a critical mass of logos within a few days: http://www.linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/Logo_Collection I will continue to ask those German TV and radio stations in my channel.conf, but help for other countries would be welcome. Please contact me before you ask your local stations, so that they don't get asked twice. (Oh, and don't bother asking pay TV stations that do not permit pvr use such as German Premiere.) The strategy is to ask for vector graphics logos and for permission to use them in OSD and EPG non-commercial open-source applications. This will make the collection versatile enough to be used beyond vdr, e.g for mythtv etc. However, vector graphics files means Illustrator, Freehand or EPS. What I need is SVG. For many of the files of the collection, Inkscape or pstoedit fail to open them. It'd be nice if a user of illustrator or freehand could help. It shouldn't be more work than simple conversion of files to .svg or to clean .eps every now and then, so that I can edit those files in Inkscape later. (Yes, I know that there are SVG logo files on Wikipedia. However, those logos were drawn and contributed by users and some of them are not true to the original logo.) Thanks, Hanno

Question about locales

Hi, after moving to VDR 1.6 and a new Debian 2.6 based system I still need to play with locales. The System language I am using is English: VDR-test: locale LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_ALL= Currently my locale is somehow not set correctly and runvdr cannot find anything in ./locale. What I would like to know is, if I am using English EPG and German EPG, plus I want the OSD of VDR to appear in English. Is that possible, will all characters be displayed correctly? I also want vdr to output its logs in english, which is explained in the docs OK. So how should VDR be setup for what I want? Cheers Brian

epg2timers is a tool that allows you to use the web EPG at http://tvtv.de to program VDR from anywhere in the world simply by clicking on the things you want vdr to record in the http://tvtv.de listings. I apologize for being kind of slow in developing epg2timers lately. I am doing most of my own timer programming using VDRAdmin now. But since many epg2timers users asked - here is a new version. epg2timers version 1.5.2a is now available in Klaus' Tools directory at ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/people/kls/vdr/Tools/epg2timers-1.5.2a.tar.bz2 Changes since epg2timers 1.4.5: 1.5.2 21-Sep-2007 Update channel map. Use stop time instead of duration. 1.5.2a 15-Jun-2008 Update channel map. Adapt code to new merkliste format and to the fact that bookmarks are no longer supported. See the README file included with the distribution. Special thanks go to Christian Holpert who has done most of the work required to port epg2timers to the new http://tvtv.de merkliste format.
