OpenTV and multiscreen

Hi, I've googled around and from some old discussions it would seem that the news multiscreens on Astra 28.2 (BBC News and Sky News) use a properiatory "OpenTV" format and are not viewable with VDR (or any other non-OpenTV STB). Is that still the case? I have a channel which displays the 6 BBC news videos in 6 boxes, but I only seem to get the audio for the first one. -- Scott

Unique Timer ID

Hi, just wanted to ask whether someone already thought about the idea to use unique timer IDs, like autoincrement, for avoiding race conditions between multiple users or processes adding or removing timers. The associated renumbering between DELT operations can lead to hitting the wrong timer. If all timers had unique numbers, the issue would be gone implicitly, but timers.conf would have to carry the ID requiring a file layout change. What do you think? – Matthias

vdr-sxfe from background script

Hi all, I wonder what am I doing wrong. I've set up a script that will run vdr-sxfe in a loop. When I want to restart vdr-sxfe, I just kill it and the script is suppose to run it again. The problem is that when this script is run in background (& at the end), the job is shown as "stopped". I've tried to run vdr-sxfe itself in background, it opens the window and the job stops. I know there is a switch that will run it in daemon mode, but that's not that good for the script I want to have. Any ideas what can be wrong or any other ways to run vdr-sxfe from background? Thanks.

Adding decoding of content descriptor would be nice. It would allow recording of all soaps or football matches or whatever without close watching of EPG. patching of VDRADMIND might be needed. Cheers....

Hi, I'm sorry about this confusion, it was my fault. For future Versions I will rename the define or separate these extensions from Liemikuutio. [Announce] remotetimers-0.1.1

Hi, I uploaded a new remotetimers release to http://vdr.schmirler.de which brings mostly bugfixes for the previous release 0.1.0. The remotetimers-plugin is a perfect add-on for streamdev-clients to add/edit/delete timers on the server VDR. Additional features: - multiuser support by assigning user IDs - modify name, priority and lifetime of recordings - serverside cutting of recordings - VDR patch for serverside instant recordings (REC / Pause keys) - progress bars for EPG menu - possibility to swap key bindings of "Ok" / "Blue" in the "What's on" menus - refresh recordings list after mount/unmount of video directory and even if server directory is mounted as a subdirectory of the local video directory Changelog of 0.1.1 - New setup option for swapping the key bindings of "Ok" and "Blue" in the "What's on now/next" menus (suggested by HolgerR@vdrportal) - Update recordings list after mount/unmount of video directory - Fixed remote cutting which didn't work if local video directory is equal to the server's video directory (reported by kris@vdrportal) - Fixed compile error in remote_instant_recordings-patch (reported by kris@vdrportal) - Fixed incompatibility with switchtimer-patch (reported by Andreas Schott) - Updated Italian translations (thanks to Diego Pierotto) Enjoy, Frank

cStatus::OsdClear

Hello, i using the status interface in a plugin. No I wonder why cStatus::OsdClear() and therefore also ::OsdItem() and ::OsdCurrentItem() is called every second, even if i don't touch any key. This behavior is not in all menus, most notably in the main menu. In other menus only ::OsdCurrentItem() is called if i scroll in the menu. My VDR version is 1.4.7, i can't say since which version it is like this, but I'm almost sure some versions ago it was different. Regards Jörg

Use FF Card only as output device

Hi, my DVB-S FF card broke down those days. I think it's the tuner of the card, because it can't lock to a frequency: ----- Output of femon ----- using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' FE: Philips TDA8083 DVB-S (SAT) status 01 | signal 6363 | snr 1919 | ber 080484c0 | unc bfc2d9f8 | ----- End of output ----- Additional I've a DVB-S budget card in the system. So is it possible to use the Tuner of the buget card and use the broken FF card only as display device and tell the system not to use the broken tuner? Thanks and greets Patrick

But this would not help you in case of the buffer overflow, since the pid remains but the connection to vdr gets broken. I do have a similar solution to the one Ville used in KDE - set up a shell script - issue a killall -q -9 vdr-sxfe command first (if there is no vdr-sxfe task running this will be ignored) - call vdr-sxfe again Looks like this: #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/killall -q -9 vdr-sxfe /usr/bin/vdr-sxfe --fullscreen --post volnorm --reconnect xvdr://localhost I do have to use sigterm (-9) paramter, because I do get tcp buffer overflows quite often. So the connection to vdr gets lost but the task itself keeps running and can't be terminated cleanly by sighub or sth similar. In addition to ~/.config/autostart I do place a softlink to this script in K-Menu > Favorites and assign a HOTKEY. So if I press this hotkey on my wireless keyboard the script gets restarted. Maybe there is a way to get kde-lirc working with this script as well so you have it on your remote? Might be tricky when you already have a lirc session assigned to vdr. I'd be interested in a solution to that.
