Automatic shutdown / restart of VDR

Hi! I've been trying to play with different settings around nvram-wakeup and vdr. My idea of the working setup would be: * VDR will shut down the computer ONLY when it is told so with the power-key (so VDR will continue recording if there is a timer active or coming in next few hours) * VDR will wake up if timer is to record and computer shut down * VDR will not shutdown automatically I've managed to get the waking-up working properly, and also so that VDR will shutdown at night after the last timer has stopped, but if there is a timer in the morning and it wakes computer up, VDR also shuts down the computer, which is something I do not want. Settings in setup.conf: MinEventTimeout = 120 MinUserInactivity = 0 So the question is: Which settings should I have to get the functionality I like? Best Regards, Lari Tuononen

projects.vdr-developer.org update to Redmine 1.0.0

Hi! On August 21 / 22 I will update projects.vdr-developer.org to a new Redmine version, so please be prepared for some service downtime. With the update Redmine will show Git-branches and tags in its built-in repository browser plus some other nice features. I try to make this transition as smooth as possible, but I might need to take down the whole service for some hours. Only the Redmine webinterface will be affected and you can still use the Git repositories! bye, Tobias

You are absolutely right, the P4 has indeed 2.4GHz (and 512MB of RAM) Which makes it the more surprising that on SD channels I am getting cpu utilization in the region of 80% to 95% It should be a lot less? vdr-1.7.15 dvb-t channel mismatch

Hi, reststarting my vdr activities I went into trouble with dvb-t channels.conf for Berlin. Just took the channels from: http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Channels.conf_DVBT-De-Berlin-Brandenb… There is the following entry for ARTE: arte;ARD:191500:I999B7C23D12M16T8G8Y0:T:27500:201:202=deu,203=fra:204:0:2:8468:0:0 I was able to tune and watch tv on this channel, but there was no EPG available. VDR created the following new entry in channels.conf: arte;ARD:191500000:B7C23D12G8M16T8Y0:T:0:0:0:0:0:2:8468:257:0 Tuning to this VDR generated channel shows now the EPG information, but no video and no sound :-(. -- Stefan Lucke

speeding up vdr+xine on an old Pentium4

Hi, I´ve taken an old PC (Intel graphics card on board, P4@553Mhz, 512Megs of RAM) and installed mms, vdr and lirc basically. Everthing works fine but I see cpu utilization in the region of 90% (this is with SD, I have no delusions about HD channels on this hardware) At the moment it is connected to a monitor, so I have a feeling it goes for the maximum resolution. Eventually it will be connected to an old 28 inches TV (CRT not LCD) with an adaptor VGA to RCA Any tips on how I could speed things up? Xine settings? Xorg settings? vdr settings? xv or opengl?

nvidia-vdr closed driver or open source?

Hi, I have an onboard nvidia 8200 graphics card, using vdr-1.7.15 connecting with xine and using xv , not vdpau At the moment out of habit I am using the nvidia proprietary driver, but should I use the open source instead? Which one is likely to yield better performance in my setup? Cheers, Art

Dish Network and Diseqc switches.

I had a nice European sat system until moving to the US. Since coming here I've cludged VDR to work with cable using PVR cards and an HD-PVR. However, I bought a Dish Network satellite "Superdish" at an auction for about $2.50 and wondered if I can get it working with my DVB-S cards. It appears to have three LNB's, a dual one and then a side one. Each LNB seems to have two plugs coming off it. Can I connect all three to a Eurospec Diseqc switch I brought with me or does it need it's own switch from Dish Networks?

Hi! I found "fix" to this problem.. After removing .xine directory (from home of 'vdr'; user what runs vdr-sxfe) pausing works as it should be.. When vdr-sxfe starts, it created again that .xine directory.. But it (directory) stays empty. After creating config_xineliboutput to that directory (file is empty; touch config_xineliboutput) problem returns, but not every time when you try to pause playback... Strange! Hi Reinhard, Unfortunately I can not reproduce it anymore, because in the meantimeI installed a newer version of xine-lib and the problem disappeared. What I notice is that using vdpau, on 28e BBC HD for example drops many frames (unwatchable, although cpu load remains low), whereas using xv the same channels plays perfectly (although ITV1 HD even using xv drops some frames) So for me it is xv for now as vdpau does not seem quite mature Regards, Art

I wonder if somebody who understands fully the interaction between lirc, xine and vdr can help me debug my setup. The PC has no keyboard or mouse connected and it is operated exclusively via the remote control for most of the part and ssh for the rest I have only one irritating bug, I use oxine as a front end (then calling shells as appropiate) and it I do not press any key on the remote for approximately 5 minutes while on this screen, the remote ceases to operate until I reboot (once this happens if I run irw I can see output as usual) I wonder if it is because my setup, although working perhaps it is kind of not optimal. My remote is the type that uses input events (comes with the hauppagge sat card) using dev/input in lirc dmesg |grep input6 input: cx88 IR (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR400 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:08.0/0000:01:06.2/rc/rc0/input6 In xine itself I was not able to map the special vdr commands (I tried but would not recognise most buttons) so I am not using that feature.
