vdr cpu usage

Hi mailing list, perhaps this question was asked on other forums before (maybe even in a different language). Google failed to bring up search results for vdr idle cpu usage. I have vdr 1.7.14 running with the only plugins dummydevice and streamdev-server, no client is currently connected and on my Pentium 3 machine 1GHz, it uses between 10% ~ 15% cpu "idling". This is also after a restart of vdr and tuning to a channel that has got no video and audio. So now my question is, why would vdr use even more than 1% cpu usage, compared to other services like mediatomb that if not in use is about 0.1%. Is this a requirement that vdr uses this much all the time? I'm not trying to start a flame war or who is to blame but are there ways I can inspect to see which plugin is causing it, if is a plugin to blame. Theunis

Strange problem with one specific channel

Hi. I have a strange problem with a relatively new DVB-T/SD/MPEG2 channel in Sweden. If I try to record from it all I get is a zero-byte file and VDR restarts after the standard 30 seconds reporting the infamous "ERROR: video data stream broken". All other channels on that mux are perfectly OK in VDR. This specific channel plays perfectly using mplayer connecting to VDR through streamdev's or xineliboutput's http ports. It also works perfectly with XBMC as frontend connecting to VDR through the vnsi plugin. Using my standard output plugin xineliboutput with vdr-sxfe as frontend, it normally plays for about a second and then video freezes but audio continues. Given Klaus's track record, I guess that the problem is not in VDR but in the stream itself. I'm not an expert in analyzing mpeg streams so I wonder if anyone out there could suggest a tool to use to debug this. If anybody is interested in helping me out I'd be glad to provide a small clip recorded through streamdev that plays perfectly in mplayer. I currently use cron jobs to record this channel using mplayer's dumpstream on streamdev's ts output, which feels a bit too old-school in the long run. The above applies for a standard unpatched VDR 1.7.16, even without starting any plugins. VDR simply won't record it. Thankful for any help. /Longtime VDR fan, Magnus H

[Announce] MainMenuHooks-v1.0.1 Patch

Hi, here's a minor update for the MainMenuHooks patch. The patch allows plugins to replace some of VDR's mainmenu items. The new version returns a cOsdObject instead of a cOsdMenu, so now the patch may also be used by plugins drawing their own menu. @plugin authors: If your plugin supports MainMenuHooks-1.0, there's nothing to change in the program code. Just update the patch itself in case it is shipped as part of the source distribution Full changelog: - return a cOsdObject instead of its subclass cOsdMenu (thanks to Joe_D@vdrportal) - version number defines in config.h now follow the ususal conventions: MAINMENUHOOKSVERSNUM is now a number, the newly added define MAINMENUHOOKSVERSION is a string (suggested by gnapheus@vdrportal) - patch is now based on VDR 1.6.0 - updated documentation Regards, Frank

Technotrend DVB-C 1501

Hi, i have a Technotrend DVB-C 1501 device (I guess the chip is the saa7146). With this card i cannot view a recording or live tv with the xineliboutput. live tv or a recording done by a pvrinput device works fine. Does anyone has a clue why the dvb-c device doesn't work with xineliboutput ? I have an ubuntu system with vdr 1.7.16. Regards, Rainer
